KITT in your car

I already have a GPS unit but I'll be dammed if I'm not throwing it out because the guys at Mio have come up with a Knight Rider branded GPS unit with voice prompts by the one and only KITT William Daniels. Apparently, you will recognize his familiar voice as soon as you fire it up and hear "Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?" As an added touch, the display is flanked by a series of red LEDs that mimic KITTs hood-mounted lights. Further details are scarce, but we do know the Mio Knight Rider GPS will retail for $299 when it is finally released.

AT&T 3G iphone To Cost $199

Well this is certainly a good way for AT&T to keep people from running out and unlocking the new 3G iphone due out soon. According to Fortune, AT&T will subsidize the new 3G iphone as much as $200. Making the iphone as low as $200 with a soul sucking 2 year contract, which isn't that bad when you think about it. The catch is that you have to buy it from AT&T, as the 3G iphone will go for $399 and 499 for the 8GB and 16GB models at Apple stores. People who want to take their new iphone to T-Mobile or to export it will have to pay the higher price.

So buying straight from Apple will cost you extra!

Fortune's source also state that the 3G iphone does has GPS and is 2.5mm thinner, not thicker as previous reports. Fortune said that you'll know when it will ship, because Apple will cut off shipments of the original iphone to clear inventory.

Now if I could get one of those drones at Apple to tell me when shippments have stopped, my journey will be complete.

3D GPS Mapping Finally Coming To The U.S.

3D enabled GPS has been all the rage in other countries such as Korea and Japan, but now Nav N Go is making the software available to manufacturers. The software shows roads, landmarks, and even terrain with up to 13 miles in a single view.

Very cool.

Faux GPS For The iphone Via Firmware Upgrade

Gearlive is showing off some screen shots of firmware 1.1.3 upgrade for the iphone, that gives it some things that should have come with it in the first place. Check the bullet points:
  • The ability to send an SMS message to multiple people is now there
  • Google Maps application can now pinpoint your location using cell tower triangulation
  • Google Maps can now display the Hybrid map view
  • You can now drag and drop application icons on your home screen
  • The home screen supports pagination
  • You can now add web bookmarks to your home screen
The GPS even though it a Faux GPS is a welcome edition to the iphone, and a feature that Apple themselves should have had at the launch. There are more pictures that are at the Gearlive website, so hit the jump for them. Thanks to Gizmodo for this info.

BlackBerry 9000: iphone Killer?

In what seems to be the next generation of phones, BlackBerry has decided to join the touch screen madness. BoyGeinus has uncovered the BlackBerry 9000, their newest smartphone entry with touch screen. The new BlackBerry will have Wi-Fi, 1GB of on-board memory, an Intel XScale PXA270 processor at 624MHz, which clocks in a little faster than the iphones 620MHz ARM 1173 processor. But this baby comes with two things that the iphone doesn't, GPS and 3G. The screen is 420×380 and there is a possibility of a 3.2 megapixel camera. No telling what's going to happen to our favorite full keyboard that BlackBerry is known for, but you have to give a little to get this kind of hotness in a phone.

With this having sync ability and business applications, this could seriously be the iphone killer that people have talked about.

Of course there's no word on pricing or availability but speculation is Q-1 or Q-2 of 2008

I hope this is the next Blackjack

The Samsung i780 cellphone (with GPS) was first spotted on September, and at that time there wasn't many information available about the device, but yesterday Samsung finally let all the details be known during an announcement in London. With that being said, the i780 integrates 3G, HSDPA, GPS, and Wi-Fi connections in only one device, which makes it the top-notch cellphone of the i series. The TFT touchscreen that measures 2.6-inches gives a 320x320 pixels resolution, and features the Windows Mobile 6 Pro as the operative system. One cool detail is the inclusion of a mouse, that makes the stylus become part of the past. Additional features include a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2-megapixel camera plus a VGA lens located on the front so you can do video conferences, a microSD memory card slot, bluetooth, a MiniUSB 2.0 port, and an expected release date on January, for €500, close to $720.

AT&T Launches New Curve Today

As much as I hate AT&T, I continue to stay with the rat bastards because of one reason....... They get the best phones, at least in the U.S.

Case in point the new Blackberry Curve 8310 has just hit the streets today under the umbrella of AT&T. And I have to say that it's pretty nice with integrated Wi-Fi, 2 megapixel camera, and push to talk capability. But what really sets this one out there is the GPS service with full turn-by-turn directions.

And all this can be yours for $200, once you lock in a 2 year service agreement and give up your first born.

Faux GPS Application For The iphone

One of the features that I was counting on with version 2 of the iphone was GPS, well it looks like anyone who was waiting for that might not have to wait that long.

Well kinda.

Navigation, which is a faux GPS application that you install on your iphone for FREE, that simulates what a GPS system does. They call it a peer to peer location detection, which gathers your location by determining how far you are from cell tower to cell tower. It's accurate within a few hundred feet, which is good enough to get you most places, and it's better than nothing.

Oh... did I say that it's FREE!!!

TomTom One Portable GPS Under $200

One thing that I have to say about my father, he wants all the hot gadgets, but he wants them at bargain basement prices. Don't we all right? But he takes it to another level, such as wanting a 50-inch HDTV set for under $800. Oh... and the picture quality better be on par with sets that cost twice as much, or he's not happy.

Well he's wanted a portable GPS system, and it looks like Tom Tom was thinking about him when they made it. TomTom One is a straight forward no frills GPS unit that cost $199. Cnet has a review on it, and here is what they had to say:

"The TomTom One features a sleek design and is simple to use. It offers accurate text- and voice-guided directions and is affordably priced. Offering just the navigation essentials and accurate directions, the TomTom One is an affordable and easy-to-use in-car GPS device for first-time buyers or anyone who wants a no-frills nav system." Oh... and shipping is free!

Ya here that Dad? Now stop the bitch'n and go pick this up.

Blackberry Curve 8310 With GPS: Not In The U.S.

I am in absolute love with the Blackberry Curve, which is why I'm so glad that I haven't bought one yet.

RIM announced today the new 8310 Curve which will have GPS built in, something that most geeks want and need. So not only did they make one of the most sexy looking Blackberry, they also put in something that should be included in any smartphone (hello iphone).

The only problem is that this is only available in Germany, bastards!!!

But it will not always be this way, as I'm sure that the 8310 will make its way state side sometime this year. So I will save my money and wait.

But if you're in Germany, this baby can be yours through Vodafone for 99 Euro now.
Thanks for the info Crunchgear.

Now that's getting it done!!

Black Eagle GPS: Narc In Your Car

Here is a GPS system I'm not sure if I would want in my car. The Korean-only (for now) Black Eagle GPS can detect decelaration of 1.1G or more, which it would assume you hit something rather hard. It then can record up to 18 seconds of video (12 seconds before impact and 6 after) and reports your speed before the impact, it even has sensors for lane changes.

Somehow I don't think having this incriminating info would be in my best interest.

iNavi G1: Comes With The Goods

If you don't live in Korea and your looking for a cool GPS system, you might want to find a way to import this thing. In what seems to be the uber GPS system, iNavi G1 is one of the coolest devices that has not left Korea yet.

This baby has 3D GPS which shows you surrounding buildings and mountains, and is supplemented with a geomagnetic sensor (g-sensor) which helps when the GPS signal is weak. It also has Picture in Picture for video viewing and plays damn near every music format out there. No HHD but it does come with SD memory slot for your pleasure.

But the best part about this device is a built in Karaoke machine!!!
That's right, Karaoke baby!!! Right in your car!!!

iRiver NV Does Everything: Including you!!!

Here's the new iRiver NV in all its glorious smoked Korean shininess. With a 7-inch screen and two SD ports, integrated Global Positioning System unit (Hello, iphone) , terrestrial digital TV, FM radio and plays back every format under the sun: MP3, WMA, OGG, ASF, WMV, MPG, Xvid and H.264.

It has a sexy monochrome display in the thumb control, and a Black piano finish. The monochrome display not only show its functions but also show icons indicating what kind of turn you have to do next. It even comes with a remote, though I can't imagine why you would use it from a distance.

Hopefully this will be out soon.

Garmin Launches Two New GPS Units

Today, Garmin announced it would be releasing two new models in its nuvi line of GPS units. The 200W and 250W each come with a high-sensitivity antenna to cut back on size so the case isn’t huge.

You’ll find a very welcome 4.3-inch touch-screen on each unit, great for browsing through maps to find the closest McDonalds on the road. Garmin is including over six million points of interest for you to discover on your trip, making sure you’ll never be bored on the road again.

Companies will be able to add details to the map, sort of like Google Maps allows developers to mess around via its API. The 200W is available for $500 and includes maps of the US, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Pick up the 250W for $550 if you need maps of Alaska and Canada as well.

AVL-900: there's a new snitch in town

When the AVL-900 is installed, it has enough gadgetry to ruin any Friday night teenager party.

Not only does this baby have GPS and can send out the car's current location or alert the owner/parent the second their car has been moved, but it can spy on the driver as well., but it also has the ability to listen in on conversations. So when little Billy says that he's going to the library, once dialed in you can hear all about how he and his friends are on their way to the drug party.

But since there's no word yet on where to pick up one of these snitches, kids still have a little time.
