A recent survey concluded that 72% of the population of the United States played videogames over the course of the past year, which is an all-time high. This is an 8% jump over the past year, which is a pretty big increase. Also, 40% of the population have played some form of game online since 2007, which is pretty amazing as well, with over 90% of those being on the PC.

What does that all mean? Nothing but good things for the industry, that's for sure. People of all stripes are playing games in all kinds of ways, and consoles are giving way to PC gaming, which is certainly surging. It's good. There's room for everyone in the pool, so let's all play together!

Heat Ray Makes 60 Minutes Reporter Scream And Run

There's nothing like a military ray gun that makes you feel like you're on fire when hit. It's said that most people can't stand more than 4-5 seconds of the beam hitting them, but 60 minutes reporter David Martin isn't able to make it 3 seconds.

Nothing like a ray beam to enforce your ideals on some evil doers!

U.S. Preps for Potential Cyber War Against China: Battle Stations, People!

I not sure why I find this kinda cool but the thought of a cyber war between the U.S. and China sounds fun. I'm sure that it's serious business, but I can't get the thought of Mathew Broderick hacking China's top network out of my mind.

A senior general in the U.S. military, the best military in history, recently said that while numerous countries try to hack the military’s network infrastructure, China goes above and beyond the established decorum. So the U.S. is setting up sort of “cyber command,” a place where officials can monitor the country’s vital electronic communication infrastructure. The Pentagon is worried that Beijing will use the Internet to launch an electronic war against us, like Estonia accused Russia of doing a few weeks ago.

The moral of the story is that Pentagon doesn’t trust China to play nice over the Internet and is doing its best to prevent it from gaining any sort of technological upper hand.

Garmin Launches Two New GPS Units

Today, Garmin announced it would be releasing two new models in its nuvi line of GPS units. The 200W and 250W each come with a high-sensitivity antenna to cut back on size so the case isn’t huge.

You’ll find a very welcome 4.3-inch touch-screen on each unit, great for browsing through maps to find the closest McDonalds on the road. Garmin is including over six million points of interest for you to discover on your trip, making sure you’ll never be bored on the road again.

Companies will be able to add details to the map, sort of like Google Maps allows developers to mess around via its API. The 200W is available for $500 and includes maps of the US, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Pick up the 250W for $550 if you need maps of Alaska and Canada as well.

FX webs Spiderman 3

Looks like FX has won the bid over TNT/TBS, USA, and Spike TV for the rights to televise Spiderman 3. No word on what the final price was, but FX might pay upward of $33 million for the rights depending on how well the movie does at the box office.

The cable network will first start running the film in 2009.

Now me being a big fan of 'The Shield', I deal with watching it without HD on FX. But if they're going to have a film that just screams for HD such as Spiderman 3, I think FX needs to step up their signal.

Don't want to see Spiderman 3 on the fuzzy station!!!
