Apple Intros The New 17 inch MacBook Pro

The new 17 inch MacBook Pro was unveiled, and it looks like it lost a little bulk than the previous version. It has a unibody construction and an integrated battery (non-removable) that is said to have very good performance.

MacBook & MacBook Pro Make Debut

Apple hit the ground running with the announcement of the new MacBook and the MacBook Pro models. What is a little strange is that they’re only offering one size for both models, a 13-inch for the MacBook and a 15-inch for the MacBook Pro. The Pro has a two tone look now with the silver body style and black keyboard. Intel powers the Pro with a Core 2 Duo CPU, but NVIDIA takes over the graphics with two different options, the GeForce 9400M and the 9600M GT. The memory is set at 2GB 1066 MHz DDR3 with a 250GB Hard Drive, and a Slot-loading SuperDrive.

All this can be yours for only $1999!!!

But wait, there’s more! You can have the 4GBs of RAM, along with the 2.53 Core 2 Duo Processor for the low price of $2499. The MacBook also sports the two tone look and has an Intel Core 2 Duo with NVIDIA powering it with 9400M GPU. The 13-inch model comes with a 320GB HD, 2GB of RAM and a backlit keyboard which is very cool. The base MacBook is going to set you back $1299 for the 2GHz option, but you can upgrade to the 4GBs of RAM for only $1599.

Leaked Photos Of The New MacBook?

Could these possibly be the new Macbooks that Apple has been secretively guarding? Well according to a Taiwanese website, these are leaked photos of the upcoming laptops. The new look sports Macbook Pro feel with the all aluminum body style. They certainly could be photoshop'd to hell, so definitely take this with a grain of salt.

How I Lost My S#?! at the Apple Store

I thought this was hilarious.



Dougan wanted to install an Airport Card in his wife's MacBook. He realized that a normal screwdriver wouldn't open the case to allow him to do so. A Google search would have shown him that he required a Torx Wrench #8. He did not make a Google search. Instead, he made a fool out of himself in the Apple Store, yelling and screaming at the Genius Bar employees. He was clearly in the wrong, but to make himself feel better and get internet sympathy, he made a comic about his experience.


Really dude, I know it must have been annoying to see the wrench you needed behind the Genius Bar, but when they say they can't let you repair your own stuff at the bar for liability issues, they aren't just messing with you. They'd lose their jobs.


I know the comic would have been way more boring if you had Googled, ordered the wrench and then made a legit complaint about the non-standard screws on the MacBook, but then again you also wouldn't have made a spectacle of yourself in public.

3G iphone To Be Debut June 9th

It looks like the new 3G iphone will be announced at the WWDC in San Francisco on June 9th. Citi analysts Richard Gardner and Yeechang Lee says that it will debut during Lord Jobs keynote, along with a refresh of the Macbook line. It is also rumored that the 2.5 version of the iphone will get a “minor casing change” along with a price drope of $299 and $349 respectively.

Finally, we're starting to get somewhere.

Proving that hell isn’t immune to this crappy ass winter, I came across this gem below:

FROM FAKESTEVE.BLOGSPOT.COM: Some Wall Street dudes ran the numbers and even made a chart. We're at $1,099. The comparable machine from Dell costs $1,119. And it comes with Vista Home Premium. Can someone please tell me why we don't have 90% market share? Or at least, like, 50%? Anyone? Bueller?

Apple Shows Off New Docking Patent For Slim Macbooks

Never let it be said that Apple doesn't come up with great ideas and designs. Such is the case with the new docking station for the ultra-light, ultra-slim MacBooks that are rumored to be coming out. The docking station allows you to slide a MacBook into its side horizontally. The patent shows you how it works, from top to bottom.

MacBooks Have Fatal Hard Drive Flaw?

I had a certain brother in law in mind when I heard about this, but if you have a MacBook you might want to pay attention to this one. Reports that users are having issues with flawed hard drives, and a UK data-recovery firm Retrodata is backing this up. According to Engadget, the problem comes from "7.0.1 Seagate drives manufactured in China, which have defective read / write heads that can become detached and slide across the surface of the platters, making recovery impossible".

Apple says that they've only received a few reports of this problem, but Retrodata states that the problem is big enough to order a recall. We recommend that MacBook owners open up Apple System Profiler and check out the Serial-ATA drive they have.

And start backing up stuff, quick!!!

Apple Keyboard Malfunctioning?

It looks as though a few people who have the new Apple keyboard are having trouble. Notably with the F3 and F4 function keys, these are for the Expose and Dashboard functions.

But there seems to be a work around.

OWC Announces 4GB Memory Upgrade for MacBook Pro

Other World Computing announced today that it will be releasing a 4GB memory package for all MacBook Pros shipped after June 5th. The upgrade will consist of two 2GB modules and cost about one third of the price of a factory upgrade, $230.

OWC also announced that it will carry a 3GB upgrade for older MacBook Pros, and MacBooks.

I have to give it to Apple, they have some pretty good promotions. The 'Major in Mac' promotion is underway, and it looks like a good one.

Eligible students, faulty, staff, etc. who buy a Mac will get a $200 rebate toward the purchase of a 4GB or 8GB iPod nano. You have to buy the Mac from Apple directly or from one of its retail stores or BestBuy, and the like-purchased Mac don’t qualify for the promotion. Major in Mac ends on September 16.

Hmm, how ’bout a shiny new MacBook Pro and black iPod nano? Then you’ll be the koolest kid on campus…

iMac Gets Dressed Up For WWDC

All right, let’s fire up the rumor mill about what’s coming our way at WWDC. Could it be a brushed metal iMac, ala Mac Pro, perhaps, with a Santa Rosa chipset? It’s buzzing around that the newest iMac will also be super sized to proportions larger than the current 24-inch model. I'll bet that this is the case because the 17-incher was axed not too long ago and flat-panel prices are plummeting.

Oh and don’t forget that the Macbook Pros could be upgraded tomorrow.

It looks like Apple’s industrial designers have just been showed up by Yann Le Coroller. The MacTab combines the Macbook's looks with a tablet PC’s function and portability. It’s held together by “magnets” and “notches” and a hinge on the back lets you use it in the vertical position.

Apple Issues MacBook, MacBook Pro Battery Update

Attention all Macbook owners!!!

Apple has issued an update for Macbook and Macbook Pros purchased between Feb '06 and April '07. This update is for the battery issues that have plagued mobile Mac owners recently. These issues such as: the battery won't charge, won't recognize, or reports a low charge when it's fully charged and has a battery cycle count of less than 300. Oh and the bulging deformed looking batteries (such as the one above) that are very nasty.

If you complete the update and are still experiencing the issues above, then you can head into an Apple store and get a free battery replacement.

Some bulges in life are not good!!!
