MacBooks Have Fatal Hard Drive Flaw?

I had a certain brother in law in mind when I heard about this, but if you have a MacBook you might want to pay attention to this one. Reports that users are having issues with flawed hard drives, and a UK data-recovery firm Retrodata is backing this up. According to Engadget, the problem comes from "7.0.1 Seagate drives manufactured in China, which have defective read / write heads that can become detached and slide across the surface of the platters, making recovery impossible".

Apple says that they've only received a few reports of this problem, but Retrodata states that the problem is big enough to order a recall. We recommend that MacBook owners open up Apple System Profiler and check out the Serial-ATA drive they have.

And start backing up stuff, quick!!!

Sorry, I haven't been around much. Get this blog on a work-friendly site.

Anywho, I think the first MacBook I bought had the dreaded HD. Thankfully, I was able to return it with no restock fee and now have the new model. No seagate HD in this baby.
