Apple Intros The New 17 inch MacBook Pro

Here is the new hotness introduced at Mac-World today!!!

The new 17 inch MacBook Pro was unveiled, and it looks like it lost a little bulk than the previous version. It has a unibody construction and an integrated battery (non-removable) that is said to have very good performance.

Apple Is The Computer For The New President-Elect

It looks like there will be more change coming to the White House than a new president, as Brack Obama will be the first U.S. president to be a Mac user. It is already widely known that he traded in his Blackberry for an iPhone recently, but it looks like he's turned fully into a Mac head.

From Newsweek:

"To help bridge the physical distance between father and daughters, Michelle recently bought two MacBook laptops, one for Barack and one for the kids, so they could have video chats over the Internet."

I guess he really does "Think Different".

Sinbad Is Found Alive, And Is A Nerd

I guess all the rumors about Sinbad being dead was a little premature, considering he's here talking about how he has Windows and OS X running at the same time. But what's amazing is that he's a complete Mac nerd, and really knows what he's talking about. Listen how he talks about Macs and virtual machines like a pro.

Sinbad has nerd street cred!!!

This is what is disturbing about some Mac users, wrapped up in a trailer. And yes, this is a real movie that is coming out.

Sad, just sad.

Apple iMac Display Problems Reported

Over the last month, questionable upgrade pricing (Apple OSX Leopard: More Angry Customers), censorship (Mac OSX Cracked for PCs/More Update Woes (Is Apple Now Censoring Tom's Hardware?), and a bug-ridden operating system (Update: More Leopard Problems Plague Apple). While they represent problems for Apple, they are certainly surmountable for a mega corporation. But a new development may not be so easy to repair: Multiple sources indicate that at least some 20 and 24 inch iMacs sold since their debut August 7, 2007 may have shipped with defective displays.

The problem shows as a change in the display of colors from the top to the bottom of the iMac screen. When looking at the display from a typical front viewing angle a solid colored background appears normal at the top of the screen and gradually changes color as your eye approaches the bottom of the screen. At the bottom of the display, the color appears faded or washed out. Medium blue becomes light blue, and light colors become white.

OK, it doesn't seem like a major problem, but I guess if I paid that much for an iMac, it better be damn near perfect.

Rumor: Apple Tablet In The Works?

The long rumored and anticipated Apple tablet PC is under development with the help of Asus. Asus is one of the contract manufacturers, so this rumor is likely to be more solid than any other. I'm sure that Apple will make use of the touchscreen that seems to be all the rage in Cupertino.

According to CraveUK the tablet will be based off a totally new blueprint, but no details as of yet. And of course there are no details of when this could hit production, but I'm sure Apple fanboys have wet themselves with the thought of fondling it.

OS X Leopard and Darwin. What might it mean?

I apologize in advance for the long post; it is necessary.
I am attempting to give more direct information about what you will likely conclude; is a roadmap for where Apple is taking OS X.

DARWIN is named for Charles Darwin. He was known as the guy who brought us evolution theory.

DARWIN is an open source product that Apple has been creating via "Open Source for years. It's purpose has always been about creating an OS X like experience on non apple computers. There is no refuting this. Check out how long this has been going on here. and I will write down the URL here as well because I want everyone to see that this is APPLE'S puppy; not anyone else. It's part of the site map for APPLE. http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/

Ok, that being said, the following webpage used to solely explain Apples development of an O.S. named Darwin. It was/and is open source so as not to create to much thunder. You can see it here. Again, notice the URL when this page comes up. It's APPLE'S.

Last year, this Apple website was directly making Darwin as an "experiment" to see if they could provide a "open source" solution to folks who wanted OS X on a P.C.

At this time; unlike last year, it doesn't work so hard to misdirect you to thinking it's just an experiment. In a year, it has become a very blatant instruction guide on how to get OS X to work on a P.C.

Also, consider that there now is purportedly a "Hack" that makes OS X Leopard install just fine on a P.C. (Nelson posted it just a few days ago here) How do you think it was possible that in 2 or 3 days, a person could get Leopard to work on a P.C. ?

I guarantee this person was WELL VERSED in Darwin.

It's hard for me to see how can one conclude that Apple is not intending to eventually market either a straight version of Leopard on a P.C. or completely accurate facsimile called Darwin?

For Pete's sake, the whole O.S. what rebuilt to run on Intel chips! This was one of many steps pointing out the "roadmap" or "Evolution" named DARWIN has created an new species of the OS X Leopard.

Please all, tell me your thoughts.

Personally, I think it's wonderful! Finally some real head to head competition may arise!

Leopard Golden Master Leaked

Well at least Apple was able to keep this from happening until the last two days before release. But you knew that it was bound to happen.

The The Golden Master build of Mac OS X 10.5 or Leopard as it is commonly known, has been leaked. It's currently on Usenet and some other big bit-torrent site with the NFO file reading “You know what this is….”, and word is that it works perfectly.

Big ups to Apple for being able to keep this locked down for as long as they have. And with the release coming this Friday, you might as well wait and buy it then. No need of getting the pants sued off of you.

Leopard Desktop improvements heavy on the eye candy

For All the Mac heads that can't get enough of the new OS X coming out. Here are some screen shots of Leopard in action. Apple takes a page from Microsoft's playbook and touts Desktop as the lead feature in the new version of OS X, Leopard - and all told it amounts to a bunch of pretty graphics and some animation.

Move a window towards the Dock and you'll see its reflection.

Apple's Mac OS X Leopard fully unveiled

No matter what rampant rumors have been tossed around, we always knew there was going to be one main attraction to WWDC 2007: a feature-complete version of Leopard. Steve Jobs and co. didn't disappoint, announcing 10 of the "300 new features of the OS."

1. New Desktop - First off is the new desktop, featuring a new menu bar, a snazzed up dock and "Stacks" to help you keep your desktop clean. For instance, there's a default Stack that collects all your downloads in one place on the dock.

2. New Finder - More on the aesthetics side, Apple is going with a unified look for apps, which nixes the brushed metal style and instead mimics the current iTunes theme -- surprise, surprise. In fact, the new Finder looks and performs almost exactly like iTunes, all the way down to integrated Cover Flow for shuffling through your files. You can also save smart searches in the "playlists" side of the interface. On the back end of things, Leopard includes "Back to my Mac," which keeps track of your home Mac's IP address through various (and secure!) magicks, letting you browse your files remotely as if they were on a local network. Spotlight search also works over networks now, as expected.

3. Quick Look - Another new Finder integrated function, Quick Look lets you open up previews of most common document types without opening the respective app, and unsupported doc types can be added through extensions.

Keep reading for the rest!

4. 64-bit top to bottom - Apple is driving a hard line and going fully 64-bit in every aspect of Leopard. Hard luck for those rocking older machines, but the speed demons should rejoice

5. Core Animation - Same song as last year, but enough crowd pleasing effects to make it worth a second gander.

6. Boot Camp - Sadly, there aren't any surprise Parallels-killing functions here, but the lack of need to burn a drivers CD should take this one out of the hax0rs' court and see more users taking advantage of it.

7. Spaces - Once again, nothing new here.

8. Dashboard - Yeah, 10 new features? Not so much. Web Clip still sounds fun.

9. iChat - Now features tabbed chats and uses AAC for audio, along with those other fancy features like Photo Booth effects mentioned last year. You can also show off any Quick Look-supported document over a chat, movies included.

10. Time Machine - Backup for noobs, and previews in Quick Look

So no multi-touch interfacing or anything fancy like that, but still a crowd-pleasing offering. $129 and she's yours, come October.

OpenOffice is Released for OS X: Who's man enough?

OK Mac users!!!

If you hate Microsoft Office and don't want to use Google Docs, then I have just the thing for you.

OpenOffice has released an alpha version for OS X that runs outside of X11. OMFG!!! Keep in mind that this is an “alpha” version, so a handful of functions are missing such as printing, PDF export and copy/paste. Be warned:

"THIS SOFTWARE MAY CRASH AND MAY DESTROY YOUR DATA DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE FOR REAL WORK IN A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT"

Really doom-and-gloomy for office apps. Who amongst you is brave enough to use OpenOffice for OS X?!

Hit the jump for the jump.

Major in Mac: kinda cool

I have to give it to Apple, they have some pretty good promotions. The 'Major in Mac' promotion is underway, and it looks like a good one.

Eligible students, faulty, staff, etc. who buy a Mac will get a $200 rebate toward the purchase of a 4GB or 8GB iPod nano. You have to buy the Mac from Apple directly or from one of its retail stores or BestBuy, and the like-purchased Mac don’t qualify for the promotion. Major in Mac ends on September 16.

Hmm, how ’bout a shiny new MacBook Pro and black iPod nano? Then you’ll be the koolest kid on campus…

Mac OS X less secure than Vista?

Time for the Mac fanboys to wipe the smug look off of your face, and bow down to the OS with less holes. According to prize-winning security researcher Dino Dai Zovi, Microsoft Vista is a more secure OS than Apples OS X 10.4 when it comes to vulnerabilities.

"I have found the code quality, at least in terms of security, to be much better overall in Vista than Mac OS X 10.4. It is obvious from observing affected components in security patches that Microsoft's Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) has resulted in fewer vulnerabilities in newly written code. I hope that more software vendors follow their lead in developing proactive software security development methodologies."

This guy isn't some joke either. He took home $10,000 prize for his MacBook hijack a couple of weeks ago.

There is a snow ball in hell enjoying the weather right now!

MacLockPick: takes the fun out of hacking

Man I thought this stuff was only on '24', and then only fiction. But this little memory stick does some pretty cool stuff. imagine a memory stick that when plugged in, could download passwords for logins, disk images, Wi-Fi passwords, iTunes, iChat, Remote Desktop, email, all your banking info, peer to peer information, and arranges it neatly into a database format.

Cool if you're the one doing the downloading, but not so much if it's your computer being downloaded. That's why this little devil is only available to federal and state law enforcement officials as well as licensed investigators.

This is only available for Macs, due to the default state of the Apple Keychain is open. Prices start at $499.99, and there are discounts if you're five-O.

Check out the product page after the jump.
