Xbox Gets USB Storage Support April 6th

I'm one of the few lone wolfs out there who are still rockin the first generation 20GB Xbox 360. So this news is especially exciting to me because I have no intention of buying another 360 for a larger HDD. Don't think that I haven't been temped, as the thought of running saved games on my 360 instead of letting the system read from the CD-ROM (very loud I might add) is very appealing.

So imagine my happiness when Microsoft decided to support ANY and all USB sticks (1GB and over) starting April 6th!!!

There are limitations, as the usable partitions is capped at 16GB. So don't think you're going to throw a 1TB thumb drive on there and expect to use it all. But it will support multiple 16GB drives (two at a time) which will give you a 32GB boost. This is a major deal for some of the early adopters of the Xbox 360 like myself, and I look forward to running games directly from the drive.

Anything that makes my Xbox 360 run more quiet is a good thing.

USB Flash Drive is more that meets the eye

transformers usb awesomeness.jpg

What do you buy for the man who has nothing? While you ponder that nugget of vast intellectuality, I'll tell you about this 2GB Transformer memory stick (which is way better than these ones). Probably the awesomest USB drive I've seen in forever, the unit transforms from a normal looking USB ding-dongle into Ravage, a fierce jungle cat Decepticon (which some believe to be a dog, WHICH HE IS NOT YOU WILL NOT RUIN MY CHILDHOOD). Available fro pre-order from the BigBadToyStore, this piece of badassery will set you back $43 and ships in September. But the question remains: shouldn't you avoid trusting a Decepticon with your porno?*

*Does Optimus Prime piss transmission fluid and wipe his ass with corrugated steel?**

**Bumblebee says so!

I soooo want one of these.

One Tiny USB Drive

Will you look at that. That’s one tiny flash drive. The EagleTec USB Nano takes small to a whole new, and welcomed, level. No longer are we going to be subject to large appendages sticking out of our laptop’s side. Oh now, now that this drive is out from EagleTec, chances are we’ll see ‘em from other manufacturers too. But really, the EagleTec one seems good ‘nough.

This little guy comes in two sizes: 4GB and 8GB. Both support upto 15Mb/s read and 6Mb/s write speeds, which doesn’t make these the fastest on the block, but the overall charm is enough to have us look the other way. Expect to pay either $22 for the 4GB or $33 for the 8GB.

These look like great candidates for ReadyBoost drives for laptops.  I always forget to plug mine back in.  This one you could just leave plugged in.

USB SuperDock

I've had my share of USB card readers, which sometimes are a much better choice than hooking your camera up to your computer. It reads much faster and gives you more options to connect other cards. But this super USB card reader is for the geek that wants their cake, and eat it to. The multi-function dock from Brando can handle your SATA drives and a bunch of different types of storage cards (SD, MiniSD, CompactFlash, MicroSD, Memory Stick). It all can be yours for $79.00, which compared to others like it is a bit high, but it's not to bad. If you need to swap SATA drives often, this might be one that you might want to look at.

Transcend's Fingerprint Security Flash Drives

In the never ending story of 'who's got a better flash drive', Transcend introduces the 'Jetflash' 220 (top). The 220 brings fingerprint scanning and 256-bit AES encryption, a feature that is very cool and beats the software based security that most flash drives come with. It comes with a max capacity of 8GB for ¥17,800 or (about $149).

Or you could go with Transcend's other flashdrive, the 'JetFlash V35' which has the same memory capacity but no fingerprint security for ¥16,800 or (about $141). Both are available in Japan is month and soon, the world!!!!

Memorex’s TravelDrive 2007 Flashy Flash Drives Add Flash To Your Flash Drive Options

With the market for USB flash drives so hot manufacturers have to do something to convince consumers to buy its drives over a competitor’s. Memorex’s TravelDrive 2007 for example uses a unique jack-knife design, multiple color options and encryption software to make you grab its drives first.

Available in sizes from 512MB to 8GB (from $19.99 to $129.99) the TravelDrives come in metallic colors with names like Desert Orange, Sagebrush Green, Ocean Blue, Fire Red and, um, Silver, and are encased in a black, soft-touch outer shell for protection and easy gripping with your greasy fingers. Another useful feature: A wrap-around blue LED indicator lets you always see when the flash drive is transferring data.

Check out the product after the jump.
