Red Dead Redemption Trailers

I didn’t get a chance to try out the original on the Xbox, but this game is starting to intrigue me.  I’ve heard it is basically GTA set in the old west, but it looks like they have added extra gameplay and mission types.  I like the fact that it seems more story driven without seeming like missions strung together.

G4 Hands On 'DJ Hero' Demo At E3 2009

Now this definitely looks kinda difficult, may require a bit more hand eye coordination than I can muster.  And I think the music might drive me crazy after a few hours, but it could be a fun party game with more dance like music.  Who knows.

The True Cost of Gaming in 2009

I saw this article over at Gizmodo and thought it was pretty interesting.

With the price of Wii Motion Plus bringing the cost of a full Wiimote to a whopping $80, we thought we'd reexamine the true cost of buying a console today. Which is truly the cheapest?

We're going to pretend we're either a family of four or an apartment that wants a system loaded up with four controllers. We'll assume you want to be able to recharge your controllers rather than wasting money on disposable batteries, and we'll pick the model of each console that we'd recommend to a family member asking us for advice. We'll also factor in the cost of 2 games, because nobody buys a console without a game.

So what's the true cost of going out and buying a system today? Let's find out.

Playstation 3
Cost of console: $400 (80GB)
Cost of 3 extra controllers:
$43 x 3 = $129
Cost of charging station:
$25
Cost of 2 games: $120
Cost of HDMI cable:
$3

Total: $677

Wii
Cost of console:
$250
Cost of 3 extra controllers: $36 x 3 = $108
Cost of 3 Nunchuks:
$18 x 3 = $54
Cost of 4 Wii Motion Pluses: $20 x 4 = $80
Cost of charging station w/ 4 rechargeable batteries:
$49
Cost of 2 games: $100
SD card:
$12 (8GB)

Total: $653

Xbox 360
Cost of console: $300 (60GB)
Cost of 3 extra controllers:
$37 x 3 = $111
Cost of 2 rechargeable batteries:
$12 x 2 = $24
Cost of recharging station w/ 2 rechargeable batteries:
$30
Cost of 2 games: $120
Cost of Xbox Live membership:
$43 (13 months)

Total: $628

As you can see, the prices of all three consoles are incredibly close, and you can obviously fiddle with these configurations to change them. If you only want 2 controllers and are planning to only play Wii Sports, the Wii is still the cheapest, but a fully-loaded Xbox 360 with a year of Live is actually cheaper than the fully-loaded Wii (although it's the only console without WiFi, so add $80 if you really need that). And the PS3 is surprisingly close in price, thanks to its controllers having built-in batteries and its free online service. The Nintendo controller scheme really rockets it up in price, and it's pretty amazing that a Wii with 4 controllers is only $24 less than a PS3 with 4 controllers.

So really, it comes down to what you want in a console. But it's surprising to see that, in real-world prices, all three systems will set you back about the same amount, with the Xbox 360 being the cheapest of them all even when you factor in a monthly fee for online gaming.

‘God Of War 3’ Will Be The Last In The Series?

One of the games exclusives that I had in mind when I picked up a PS3 was the ‘God of War’ series. Call me disturbed, but nothing screams “loads of fun” like picking up enemies and ripping them apart. So it goes without saying that I’m excited about ‘God of War 3’, which is said to be the last in the franchise series. Check the quote from Stig Asmussen, Game Director of ‘God of War 3’:

“We have large shoes to fill following the success of the previously released God of War titles, But with refined gameplay and jaw-dropping visuals, I guarantee that God of War will give fans what they have been eagerly waiting for, and much more."

Somehow if this game is a huge hit, I would doubt that this will be the last. Usually development houses don’t leave money on the table when it comes to games.

G4TV Shows Off Killzone 2, It Might Be An Ass Kicker!

Could this be the first must have game exclusive for the PS3? G4TV gives us a great look at Killzone 2, and shows off the Bolt Gun and the flame thrower. Could this be a Gears of War 2 killer?

'Grand Theft Auto IV' Slip The Cops Video

With the launch of Grand Theft Auto 4 on Tuesday, the feeding frenzy for info on this game is starting to mount. So what better way to feed the masses than with some cool video from the game.

The only decision is if I should get it for the Xbox or the PS3?

Which do you think will be better?

Possible PS3 firmware problems

Foster City (CA) - A mysterious Playstation 3 error has reporedly caused problems for some users during faulty firmware installations, but Sony has said it isn't "aware of this issue."
The error could potentially cause fatal problems with the PS3 and corrupt the hard drive, according to media reports.
A handful of PS3 owners have reported receiving the error code 80010514, reports Game Revolver. The problem is apparently linked to a contamination in the hard drive and/or a faulty firmware installation.
Sony warns that any interruptions during a firmware upgrade or other processes related to the PS3 hard drive could cause serious problems.
However, there is some question to the validity of the claims. A Sony spokesperson told Eurogamer, "I've spoken to our Customer Services department and they aren't aware of this issue with the PS3."
To prevent the kind of damage reported by this error code, Sony advises users to keep their PS3 in an open space to prevent overheating, and make sure the power connection is reliable.

Trailer For Gran Turismo 5: It's Hot!!!

I think what blows my mind most about this trailer for Gran Turismo 5 is that it looks like real video footage. What you're seeing is from a PS3, and the video simply looks amazing. Perhaps I'll get something other than Guitar Hero 3 for the PS3.

EA: PS3 Will Out Sell Xbox 360 In 2008

Electronic Arts released their "Supplemental Segment Information Third Quarter Fiscal 2008," and it has a little interesting tidbit in it. According to the report, the PS3 will out sell the Xbox 360 in 2008. Both consoles are said to sell about 5 to 6 million each in North America, but the report states that the PS3 will sell another 5-6 million in Europe, while the 360 is projected to sell only 1.5-2.5 million.

Now I've heard these predictions since the next gen console war started, so forgive me if I take this with a block of salt (especially after the performance of the Wii). But it will make for an interesting 2008.

Kid Gets Phone Book For Christmas Instead Of PS3

I've had some bad Christmas gifts in my day, but none could equal up to this one.

A 13-year old California kid got a big surprise on Christmas morning when his parents bought him a PS3. The young man got even a bigger surprise once he opened the PS3 box, only to find a phone book in its place. So where did the parents buy the yellow pages PS3? Ebay? Out of the trunk of someones car?

Nope.

The parents picked this baby up from EB Games, which usually tends to be a reputable place to buy from. The parents have contacted EB Games about this, and are trying to sort things out. No word on if they will replace the PS3 or not. So what's the moral of the story? Make sure you check your purchase if you pick it up from EB Games.

Improved PS3 Graphics By Changing XMB Settings?

Is it possible that the graphics for the PS3 might not be set to optimize its potential? Many reviews about games that came out for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have been compared, with surprisingly the Xbox 360 coming out ahead. Well it might be due to some setting adjustments that have not been taken advantage of.

There are two settings in the XMB that need to be changed in order to bring the graphics up to the Xbox 360 level, with one of the settings requiring you to have an HDMI connection. So if you just got a PS3, try the settings in the video and let us know if it works.

'God of War III' Confirmed For The PS3

Sony's PS3 finally has gotten a real killer app, as the annoucement that 'God of War III' will come to the next gen console. This may not be news, as the developers did say that they had planed on creating the next game on the PS3 back when 'God of War II' was released. The game is sure to be more expansive and beautiful on the PS3, and this is the type of game that could help sell consoles.

I felt that 'God of War II' should have been developed and released with the launch of the PS3. That is the kind of killer app that would have given Sony a better footing in the console wars. No word on the release date, but stay tuned.

PS3 Losses Double

Profits were up for Sony in their second quarter, but there wasn't any champaign popping. Sony reported that profits were up $790M, but the Playstation division reported a loss of $844M. That's double from a year ago. Once the inventory changes are made for the PS3, Sony hopes that the Playstation division will break even.

That's a lot of hoping!!!
