G4TV Shows Off Killzone 2, It Might Be An Ass Kicker!

Could this be the first must have game exclusive for the PS3? G4TV gives us a great look at Killzone 2, and shows off the Bolt Gun and the flame thrower. Could this be a Gears of War 2 killer?

PC Get's A Wii-Like Controller: End Is Near

Oh God..... When will it end???

Next to the madness that's surrounding the Brett Farve Watch '08, the insanity of the Wii is right up there. Case in point is the new PC Wiimote like controls from Asus, that utilize motion controls for specific games. The new "Eee Stick" controller has wireless connection via a 2.4GHz RF USB stick, and also has vibration feedback. The controller doesn't have a release date, but is due out sometime later this year.

Now please excuse me while I find myself a rope.

Trailer For Gran Turismo 5: It's Hot!!!

I think what blows my mind most about this trailer for Gran Turismo 5 is that it looks like real video footage. What you're seeing is from a PS3, and the video simply looks amazing. Perhaps I'll get something other than Guitar Hero 3 for the PS3.

Microsoft Drops Price Of 360 HD DVD Add-On

Well if you don't believe that HD DVD is done and you've been wanting to pick up that new Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on, Microsoft is dropping their price for the unit. The once $179.99 HD DVD add-on is now available for $129.99, and it still qualifies for the five free HD DVD movies that was once a good deal.

Who knows, maybe this will save HD DVD.......... Oh, who am I kidding?

EA: PS3 Will Out Sell Xbox 360 In 2008

Electronic Arts released their "Supplemental Segment Information Third Quarter Fiscal 2008," and it has a little interesting tidbit in it. According to the report, the PS3 will out sell the Xbox 360 in 2008. Both consoles are said to sell about 5 to 6 million each in North America, but the report states that the PS3 will sell another 5-6 million in Europe, while the 360 is projected to sell only 1.5-2.5 million.

Now I've heard these predictions since the next gen console war started, so forgive me if I take this with a block of salt (especially after the performance of the Wii). But it will make for an interesting 2008.

Xbox 360 Has The Highest "Attach Rate"

Microsoft is certainly beating their chest about this one.

Apparently the Xbox 360 has the bigest "attach rate" than any other console, which means that your average Xbox 360 owns more games than the PS3 or the Wii. Check the quote from Microsoft's chief financial adviser Chris Liddell:

"We're now at a stage where we sell about seven games per console and that's a record certainly for any console and relative to history, So people are now actually spending more on the games and accessories than they are on the underlying console, so that business model that we put in place the last couple of years is certainly starting to fire."

So what do you say 360 owners, does that sound about right? Do you own several games?

EA Pimp Slaps Fox News For Mass Effect Story

Certainly not to step on Malcolm's posts, but EA's Vice President Jeff Brown responds with an open letter to Fox News Live Desk with Martha MacCallum's attack of the game Mass Effect. Check out the Bullet point smack down below:

Ms VanHorn,

I’m writing to request a clarification of serious errors FNC made in a story which aired about the video game Mass Effect. (See attachment) As the parent company of BioWare, the studio which created the game, EA would like you to set the record straight on a number of errors and misstatements which incorrectly characterize the story and character interactions in Mass Effect.

Errors include the following:

  • Your headline above the televised story read: “New videogame shows full digital nudity and sex.“
  • Fact: Mass Effect does not include explicit or frontal nudity. Love scenes in non-interactive sequences include side and profile shots – a vantage frequently used in many prime-time television shows. It’s also worth noting that the game requires players to develop complex relationships before characters can become intimate and players can chose to avoid the love scenes altogether.
  • FNC voice-over reporter says: “You’ll see full digital nudity and the ability for players to engage in graphic sex.”
  • Fact: Sex scenes in Mass Effect are not graphic. These scenes are very similar to sex sequences frequently seen on network television in prime time.
  • FNC reporter says: “Critics say Mass Effect is being marketed to kids and teenagers.”
  • Fact: That is flat out false. Mass Effect and all related marketing has been reviewed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and rated Mature – appropriate for players 17-years and older. ESRB routinely counsels retailers on requesting proof of age in selling M-rated titles and the system has been lauded by members of Congress and the Federal Trade Commission. In practical terms, the ratings work as well or better than those used for warning viewers about television content.
  • Other sources used in the segment made similar incorrect statements about the game. Judging by the inaccuracy of their comments, they have had zero experience with Mass Effect and are largely ignorant about videogames, the people who play them, and the ESRB system that governs their ratings and sales.

The resulting coverage was insulting to the men and women who spent years creating a game which is acclaimed by critics for its high creative standards. As video games continue to take audiences away from television, we expect to see more TV news stories warning parents about the corrupting influence of interactive entertainment. But this represents a new level of recklessness.

Do you watch the Fox Network? Do you watch Family Guy? Have you ever seen The OC? Do you think the sexual situations in Mass Effect are any more graphic than scenes routinely aired on those shows? Do you honestly believe that young people have more exposure to Mass Effect than to those prime time shows?

This isn’t a legal threat; it’s an appeal to your sense of fairness. We’re asking FNC to correct the record on Mass Effect.

Sincerely,

Jeff Brown

Microsoft Considering Blu-Ray Support

So now that the dust has started to settle after the devastating blow to HD DVD, a Microsoft executive has told Reuters that they might consider supporting Blu-Ray. While they still made it clear that Microsoft is still behind HD DVD, they would support the format that consumers want. Check the quote by marketing manager for Xbox hardware Albert Penello:

"It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," He went on to say "I fundamentally don't think ... this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus (Sony's) PlayStation 3,"

It might in the long run Albert, it might in the long run.

Xbox 360 "Ultimate" Coming Out?

The word on the digital street is that Microsoft is planing to build an "Ultimate" Xbox 360. So what would that entail? Check the bullet points:
  • 1080p HDMI output
  • built in Wi-Fi
  • hi-def audio ouput
  • cooler hardware
  • extremely quiet fan
  • built in HD-DVD drive.
  • 320GB hard disk
The info comes from U.K.'s Stuff magazine website and they're not very clear about where they got this information. This might be just a wish list for the CES that is next week. But if it is true, this would put the Xbox 360 in the Multi-media power house bracket along with the PS3.

Being an early adopter of the Xbox 360 (last March) I'm starting to get pissed that all these cool new features are coming out, and I haven't even owned this thing for a year!!!
You need to do something for your early adopters there Microsoft, ala Apple.

  • Duke Nukem Forever
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Mario Kart
  • Spore
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • Carnival Games 2
  • Killzone 2

Improved PS3 Graphics By Changing XMB Settings?

Is it possible that the graphics for the PS3 might not be set to optimize its potential? Many reviews about games that came out for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have been compared, with surprisingly the Xbox 360 coming out ahead. Well it might be due to some setting adjustments that have not been taken advantage of.

There are two settings in the XMB that need to be changed in order to bring the graphics up to the Xbox 360 level, with one of the settings requiring you to have an HDMI connection. So if you just got a PS3, try the settings in the video and let us know if it works.

Duke Nukem Forever: First Game Trailer Since 2001

One game that has been in development hell is Duke Nukem Forever. To give you an idea about how long it's been, the first teaser was released at E3 in 2001. So considering how long it's been worked on, I was expecting a little more from this game trailer, so put me in the "not so impressed" camp.

Hopefully, this game will get better than the first trailer since 2001.
