GTA clone for iPhone and iPod Touch

Gangstar: West Coast Hustle -- "an enhanced port of [Gameloft's] 2006 mobile handset title" -- for the iPhone is essentially "a fully 3D take on the [GTA] formula, set in an expansive world (Los Angeles)." Continue reading for the video.

On the audio front, Gameloft definitely didn't skimp. A total of four different radio stations can be accessed with each vehicle's radio: rock, latino, techno, and hip-hop

Big Day GTA

Activision's Call of Duty 4 and Microsoft's Halo 3 have been trading the first and second slots on Microsoft's Xbox Live activity chart for the past few months.

But Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live,
said that GTA IV, which just released on Tuesday, is the new king of the hill on Xbox Live.

"We had roughly 1 million users in the first 24 hours [of GTA IV's release] go online with the game on Xbox Live," said Greenberg.

The online attraction of GTA IV is staggering, considering that until now, GTA has always been focused on the single player, offline experience.

"It's been the number one game on Xbox Live since its launch, so it's knocked off Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4," said Greenberg. "At launch, our data shows that out of all of our members on Live, the majority of them were playing GTA IV.

"With a community of over 10 million members, that's pretty rare."

Microsoft measures the number of unique users per game on Xbox Live. Aside from multiplayer online sessions, single-player sessions are also taken into account in the Live activity rankings if the console is connected to the service.

Greenberg also said that 2 million GTA IV achievements were unlocked in the first 24 hours of the game's release. In addition, over 15 million Gamerscore points were added to users' accounts in the first day.

1.5 million cross-game invites also occurred during that period.

Microsoft has been keen to leverage GTA IV's strong online multiplayer component by including a one-month Xbox Live gold subscription with all GTA IV launch copies. The firm hopes the game will drive Xbox Live adoption. Gold subscriptions cost $50 for a full year.

"Our teams have been doing a lot of work in advance of this game, in fact, months. The operations team has been working on scaling our infrastructure around building and increasing our server capacities," he added.

GTA IV comparison

Well, here's a comparison from www.Gamevideos.com. It looks like there isn't much difference. The 360 usually seems like it looks crisper in my opinion, but it is pretty close. There was a little aliasing in the water on the PS3 side and a little bit of pop-in on the 360 side, but neither will make the game suck or anything.

It looks like the downloadable content and fanboyism is going to decide which one people buy. But I think if you have either system, you won't buy the other just to get this game.

'Grand Theft Auto IV' Slip The Cops Video

With the launch of Grand Theft Auto 4 on Tuesday, the feeding frenzy for info on this game is starting to mount. So what better way to feed the masses than with some cool video from the game.

The only decision is if I should get it for the Xbox or the PS3?

Which do you think will be better?

GTA IV Multiplayer modes revealed

Here are Rockstar's descriptions of the newly revealed modes:

Team Mafiya Work (2-8 teams)
You're a member of a crew doing contract work for the mafiya -- including such plum gigs as escorting wanted men, picking up MacGuffins and stealing cars. Work as a team to complete contracts before the time period ends and get the rewards. You'll probably want to do your best to scupper the other crew's work as well. Each contract you complete gives your team cash, and the crew with the most cash at the end of the round wins.

Team Car Jack City (2-8 teams)
Cars spawn parked around the map and the teams must steal them and take them to a drop off point. The cash teams get for dropping off stolen vehicles depends on their condition -- teams get less cash the more damaged they are. The exception to this are special bonus cars, stuffed with drugs, which give a set amount of cash on delivery no matter how damaged they are. Your crew has to get hold of whatever vehicles the boss wants. Whichever crew makes the most money wins. Simple.

Turf War (2 teams)
A timed capture-the-base mode. There are a number of bases around the map that you have to take by standing on them for a short period of time. The more players that are on a base, the faster it can be captured. The more bases that your team owns, the faster your team's cash score increases. If the rival gang is on or near a base, you won't be able to take control of it -- so do what you can to try and... displace them. The team with the most cash at the end of the round wins.

Race (no teams)
Race to the finish through each checkpoint in order. If you take a wrong turn or mess up in some way, you can respawn your vehicle on the last checkpoint you passed. There is a large section of races for cars, boats, and helicopters -- you can choose laps and vehicle class/type. This mode has two sub-modes: Free Race and Cannonball Run.
Free Race are point-to-point races. First one to reach the end point wins. Cannonball Run are races where you have to traverse several checkpoints any way you can.
I am starting to get really stoked for this. I tried the multiplayer on Crackdown and had a ball, the only problem is nobody was really playing it. I get the feeling this will not be a problem for GTA.
