Iphone 2.0 Already Cracked By iphone Dev Team

In what seems to be a never ending taffy pull, Apple’s new iphone 2.0 firmware has already been broken. What’s worse is that the firmware hasn’t even been released to the public, and isn’t scheduled until June. The guys over at iphone Dev Team not only opened the iphone to non-supported apps, but have also unlocked it to be used on any carrier.

How clever are these guys to unlock Apple’s latest firmware before it becomes Apple’s latest firmware?

A message to Lord Jobs:

Let people do what they want with the iphone, because clearly they’re going to do that anyway. That would only make your customers happy, and you can put resources towards getting a 3G iphone on the market and in my hands ASAP.

ipod Video Gets ipod Touch UI Hack

Do you love the look of the new ipod touch, but you have a 5G (generation) ipod and can't justify buying another one (like myself)?

Well the guys at iPodHacking have done you a solid!!!

The ipod touch UI can be installed with just a few simple firmware fixes. Now I can get by just a little longer without having to drop another $300 for the cool looking UI. This is something that Apple should consider doing from time to time, and not always expecting us to buy another ipod every year.

Please Apple, steal that one good idea that Microsoft came up with for the Zune.

Hacked iphone On SNL

If you had a chance to see SNL last night, you might have seen this clip of them making fun of the iphone commercials that have been making the rounds. But what you might not have noticed, is that the phone that they're showing is a hacked version of one. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or they didn't realize whom ever phone they "borrowed" was hacked.

Analyst Says AT&T Pays Apple $831 Per iphone

Well I guess the real reason of why Apple was so determined to lock down the iphone from hackers. After an analyst with Piper Jaffray examined the financial aspects of the AT&T/Apple deal, it seems that AT&T pays Apple $18 per month for every activated iphone through AT&T. Yes my friends, that breaks down to $831 during that 2-year bend over contract that you have to sign to own one.

I guess that's a pretty good reason why Apple went out of their way to brick iphones that were not in the loop. I guess the $600 bone wasn't enough, Apple has to make sure that you're not cheating them out of the additional 8 bills they feel they've got come'n.

Well if you've hacked your iphone, feel good knowing that you're beating 'the man'!

Leopard Working on A PC?

In what could be one of the biggest hacks of all time, the guys at DailyApps have come up with a way to run Apple's famous new OS Leopard on a regular PC.

Now how cool is that!!!

Now to their credit, they state that the hack is in its early stage and all the bugs haven't been worked out. But to have the opportunity to dual boot Leopard and Windows on a PC could change everything. This could be huge for Apple if you consider how many copies of Leopard could be sold because of this.

iphone-Elite Team Releases "Revirginizer"

Are you one of the unfortunate iphone owners who bought it thinking that it actually belonged to you? You unlocked it to use it on your network of choice, only to have it bricked when you "upgraded" to 1.1.1. Well the iphone-elite team is here to save your expensive paper weight, with the release of their revirginizing tool. This application is designed to rebuild the iphone's seczone lock table.

iTunes 1.1.1 Unlocked: AT&T Haters Rejoice

Boy that didn't take very long.

The guys at The Dev Team have already put together a working "Jailbreak" application that unlocks iphones that have been upgraded to iTunes 1.1.1. It hasn't gotten all the third party applications working just yet, but it will get you out of the clutches of AT&T. It should be available sometime next week, so stay tuned.

I thought this was an interesting comparison from Rob Beschizza at Wired based on a chart from 9to5. In light of the latest firmware upgrade to iTunes to kill all of the hacked apps, this shows all that was lost, courtesy of Apple.

Come on Apple, I understand you trying to keep your deal with AT&T and relocking the unlocked iphones. But screwing with customers who just want to make your product better by adding apps that should already be part of your phone, is just bad business.

One think that I've found a little strange about the iphone is that it can be used like an ipod and have tons of songs on it, but you can't use one track for a ring tone. Well the guys at Gearlive show you how it's done, and on a video no less!!! Check it out below.....

iphone Unlocked!

I know how much people hate dislike AT&T. But they usually get most of the cool phones, so you're forced to deal with them or get unlocked phones for other carriers. But for the iphone, that's been a problem because of the difficulty of unlocking it.

Not anymore!!!

These guys have done it, but will release the details later next week when they’ll have a software work around.

iphone Security Breached: Complete Control Over Data and Calls

You knew that once a popular device came out, everyone will try to punch holes in it. According to the New York Times, the 'Independent Security Evaluators' has found a hole in the iphone that once exposed, allows complete control.

Principal security expert and ex-NSA agent Dr. Charles A. Miller stated "Once you did manage to find a hole, you were in complete control."

Apparently just loading a simple Web page without any other user intervention is enough to gain complete control.

John Schwartz from the NYT states "the site injected a bit of code into the iPhone that then took over the phone. The phone promptly followed instructions to transmit a set of files to the attacking computer that included recent text messages -- including one that had been sent to the reporter's cellphone moments before -- as well as telephone contacts and e-mail addresses."

From there they can use your iPhone to make calls, without any user intervention.

Scary.

Vista Hacked Again, This Time Even More Effectively

This isn't very surprising to me, but a group who calls themselves NoPE have hacked Microsoft's Vista.

And this one is the best yet!!!

It is an out of the box crack as the product appears activated, updates work, and no key needs to be installed. Just like those Corporate versions on Windows XP that didn't need keys to work, and they functioned for years.

I imagine that Microsoft will respond and counter this latest threat. But I'm sure the hackers will be there waiting for them.

Microsoft confirms Vista OEM hack

From Cnet news:

According to a post by Microsoft Senior Product Manager Alex Kochis on the Windows Genuine Advantage developers' blog, Microsoft has identified two ways in which hackers have broken the product activation security feature on original equipment manufacturer PCs that come bundled with Vista. But the Redmond, Wash.-based tech giant does not yet have plans to snuff out this threat.

"We focus on hacks that pose threats to our customers, partners and products," Kochis wrote. "Our goal isn't to stop every 'mad scientist' that's on a mission to hack Windows. Our first goal is to disrupt the business model of organized counterfeiters and protect users from becoming unknowing victims."

Well if they have to concentrate on one or the other I would rather them work on the hackers trying to access the OS, and not the hacks that pirate Microsoft's software.
