Disney Acquires Marvel Entertainment

As Disney creeps closer to global domination, the latest acquisition does not surprise me one bit. Marvel Entertainment has agreed to a deal with Walt Disney, which will give the Mouse house controlling shares of Marvel. The deal is said to be around $4 billion, and gives Disney control of over 5,000 Marvel characters, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor.

The movie rights along for the said characters are worth this deal.

Amazon Has Blu-Ray Movies For 50% Off

I love the way my Blu-Ray movies look on my set, granted I don't have a 1080p, the images still look amazing. But the one thing that I can't stand about the new high definition format is the price of the movies. The Blu-Ray camp will never get full buy in from the consumer unless they lower the price of the movies from the $35.00 range to the more acceptable $19.99.

Well Amazon is taking it on themselves to cut prices on Blu-Ray movies by 50%, and not just on movies that suck. There's no telling how long this will last, so if you're looking to add to your Blu-Ray library without taking it in the moon, head over to Amazon.

Philips Offers LCD's On The Cheap

Recently I had a buddy of mine lose a 42 inch Toshiba LCD HDTV that he only had for 5 days because his kids thought it would be fun to toss vacuum cleaner attachments at one another. Obviously their aim wasn’t very good.

But I have to admire my friend’s restraint on not killing the kids; he’s certainly a bigger man than me. So when I saw this Cow Bell deal come across the board, he was the first person I thought about. Philips is having a excellent deal on refurbished LCD’s with all of them 1080p, 60Hz, and 3 HDMI ports. It’s not the top of the line LCD’s, but a 42 incher is only $650 and the 47’’ is $750. There is even a 50 inch plasma that’s going for $700, although I’m sure that’s got to be 720p.

Check it out my friends.

Best Buy, Circuit City Will Haggle Price With You

I wish I had known this before I bought both of my game consoles, but it is unofficially official that Besy Buy and Circuit City will haggle prices with you.

That's right, Chinatown style!!!

Seems that internet shopping and making price comparisons are so easy, the brick and mortar stores are trying to stay competitive. This type of haggling has been going on in the NY area for some time now, and according to employees, this isn't something new. According to a tipster who works at one of the Big Box stores:

"This is not new. The discount ability has been in the POS system for years. Associates have always been encouraged to close a sale, even if that means marking down the price a little. People just need to learn not to take no as an answer."

Of course I had to try it out. With my wireless router dying on me yesterday, it seemed like the perfect time. I found a new model Linksys router that had just hit the store on Tuesday. I asked the guy for a price check on it and he tells me $59.99, to which I tell him "I need this to be $49.99, come on man, I know you guys do it.". The guy scans it again and tells me that he can take only $5.00 off since its only been here for a day.

Might not seem like much but it's $5.00 less that I had to pay, and it proves that they will haggle with you.

Give it a try.

Cow Bell Deals: Toshiba Gigabeat For $59.99

If you’re in the market for a cheap MP3 player, then head on over to Office Depot for the 2GB Toshiba Gigabeat MEU202. This tiny little guy has a 1.1-inch OLED display, and 20 hours of battery life. It can play MP3, WMA, and WAV files, and has a built in FM tuner all for $59.99.

Not bad for the price!

Toshiba Drops Price On HD DVD Players

It didn’t very long for the hardware deals on HD DVD to come through, as Toshiba has dropped the prices of the HD-A3 and HD-A30. The HD-A3 and HD-A30 are available on Amazon.com for $134.98 and $174.98, and you still get 2 free movies (Bourne Identity and 300) with them. What’s interesting about the price though, is that often time’s retailers will use the last two digits to reflect the status of the product. Prices ending in 99 cents represent current products and 98 cents represents no new product will replace the item.

So if you’re interested in picking up a high definition format that will not have any new movies for it soon, get ‘em now!

CB Deals For Apple Refurbished Gear

If you're an Apple head and looking for some holiday gear, you might want to checkout these refurbished goodies. It seems that Apple is trying to clear the house of refurbs, and are offering good deals like 30GB ipods for $159 and MacBook Pros for $1,399. The best thing about these is that Apple's refurbs are almost like getting a brand new one.

Samsung BD-P1400 For $298

It was only a matter of time before Blu-Ray responded with a price slash of there own, but with the price cuts of HD DVD it's not surprising. The Samsung BD-P1400 is the first Blu-Ray stand alone player to drop under the $300 mark. The fairly well spec'd player was retailed at $549 and sold for $499, but Amazon has it on sale for the low price of $298.

So you might be wondering if it's lacking where it counts?

No worries. This baby has 1080p24 support, Dolby Digital Plug / True HD, DTS HD, HDMI 1.3, 1080p DVD upconversion, and comes with 5 free movies. I still might be in the HD DVD camp like Fred is, but I have to say that this is a nice player for the money. Now if we can get both format players under $200, I think we might have a war.

Amazon "Customer Votes" Deals Are Amazing

If you're interested in a Wii for $79, you might want to head on over to Amazon.com. They have a 1000 up for grabs at that price, also with a 1000 PS3 for $139, and Xbox 360s for $99. Doesn't sound right does it? Well there is a catch.

You have to vote on the one that you would buy at that price, and then come back on a specific date to see if you can purchase it. If you item doesn't win, Amazon states that it will still be at a low price. At a $139 dollars, I don't think I could pass up the PS3, it's certainly worth that price!!!

There are other gadgets to vote on also, so you might want to go check it out.

Best Buy Matching Wal-Mart: $99 Toshiba HD-A2 For Everyone

Guns..Guns...Guns!!!!

Everybody is jumping into the Toshiba HD-A2 $99 HD DVD sale, with Best Buy jumping into the fray. They're sold out on line, but with any luck, you might find one in their brick and mortar stores.

I'm really curious about this HD DVD player, mostly because it's so cheap. But what are you really giving up to have one of these players? Do the more expensive ones produce a better picture? And what is Blu-Ray going to do, if anything?

[Best Buy via Gizmodo]

This Weekend Only, Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD For $99

I don't know any other way to say it, but get your ass to Wal-Mart this weekend. The super store giant that was set to sell the Toshiba HD-A2 for $198 starting mid November, will have the HD DVD player for $99 this weekend only.

That's right kids, $99 for an HD DVD player!!!

Not to say that this means that HD DVD will win the format war, but it sure does help push it in that direction. Wal-Mart is said to have a Blu-Ray deal or two in the works, but no word on what it might be. If you're looking to jump in the HD format pool, this is the cheapest that I've ever seen it kids.
