Philip’s HD homage to Dark Knight

This is short film entitled 'Carousel' (which has a very Dark Knight feel) meant to highlight Philips' new CINEMA 21:9 aspect-ratio television.

On its own, it clocks in at a (totally coincidental) two minutes and 19 seconds, but Berg conceived it to work as an endless loop. Visitors to the microsite therefore have the option to spin through the films single take shot repeatedly, to stop on a specific frame, or to watch it at the preordained speed. The film also contains embedded hotspots, which, when triggered, transport the viewer seamlessly from the heavily posted film to a behind-the-scenes version of the same shot. This constant moving between two layers of reality proved one of the projects biggest and most ambitious production challenges. Other details of the online execution play off the cinematic theme; the microsites loader doubles as a credit sequence, while rich media takeover banners drive traffic to the site by teasing viewers with an original Carousel trailer. All aspects of the production, from the film shoot to web design and development, were conducted by Stink Digital.

If you want to see the video in higher definition, go to the Philips site. If you don't, then you get your fix here. Personally, I thought it was awesome. Like watching two animals having sex in a nature documentary, except about as far from that as possible.

Philips Offers LCD's On The Cheap

Recently I had a buddy of mine lose a 42 inch Toshiba LCD HDTV that he only had for 5 days because his kids thought it would be fun to toss vacuum cleaner attachments at one another. Obviously their aim wasn’t very good.

But I have to admire my friend’s restraint on not killing the kids; he’s certainly a bigger man than me. So when I saw this Cow Bell deal come across the board, he was the first person I thought about. Philips is having a excellent deal on refurbished LCD’s with all of them 1080p, 60Hz, and 3 HDMI ports. It’s not the top of the line LCD’s, but a 42 incher is only $650 and the 47’’ is $750. There is even a 50 inch plasma that’s going for $700, although I’m sure that’s got to be 720p.

Check it out my friends.

Philips To Show Off Aurea Set

Philips who made Ambilight almost a house hold name in the HD world, is showing off their latest line at European expo IFA on August 30. This new tech called Aurea (sounds better than Ambilight) incorporate the lighting directly into the frame, instead of having the glass frame in the set itself.

Is this just a new spin on Philips old idea?
Time will tell.

Philips Introduces Two iPod-Friendly Bluetooth Wireless Music Systems

In an attempt to cover musical source preferences past and present, Philips has created two stereo systems that will sell for $199 when they arrive in early fall.

Throw back to the past, the systems play CDs, even the burned kind that hold MP3s and WMAs. In the present, they are both full-fledged iPod docks. The BTM630 (above) even plays song files from SD or MMC cards.

Looking towards the future, both systems including the BTM628 (below) can receive stereo Bluetooth signal from handsets including, you guessed it, the iPhone (Hey, Philips said it, not me).

Philips new Ambilight LCDs

Has it really been 10 years since the first Ambilight television? Does anyone care? Well Philips does, and they plan on celebrating the 10 year anniversary by releasing 3 Ambilight sets.

The Ambilight LCDs ranging size from 42, 47, and 52 inches, and will have 1080p, 120Hz, LED backlighting. The three sets will have Philips' Perfect Pixel HD processing engine, plenty of HDMI inputs (3x on the 52-incher), and of course Philips' Ambilight glow.

Priced at $2,999 for the Ambilight Full Surround (independent lighting on all four sides) 42-inch 42PFL9832D (pictured) or $2,799 for the 47-inch 47PFL9732D and $3,599 for the big 52-inch 52PFL7432D with Ambilight 2 for that left and right glow.

All are expected to roll Stateside as early as June.

I love this TV!!!
