By the Numbers: Which Console has the “Best” Games?

I found a great article over at The Exploding Barrell comparing the games for the Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.

All across the internet, fanboys argue daily about which console has the best games. While the question is ultimately subjective by nature, that doesn’t stop the xbots, PS3 droids, and Nintendo fans from ranting and raving in defense of their favorite console. The Exploding Barrel has decided to break out the old calculator and do a little number crunching to find out which console indeed does have the highest rated games. Here’s how it works: First, we pulled the top 20 game scores from metacritic (if you don’t believe us, feel free to click on the links) for each console and calculated the mean for each set. Next, we examined cross-console titles to test variations in score for each console. If you don’t agree with these numbers, don’t get mad at us. You can get mad at math you fanboy fool.

Check out all the numbers here.

Plus you have to read a lot of the comments from the fanboy tools at the bottom. It has only been a couple hours, but they've already started the flame wars.

Sony Ads Remind You: Our Network Is Free, Yippee!

Sony, in a interesting ad, has taken up the art of 'saying without saying' with this new promotion. The statement "the fun is always free" is a plug for the Playstation 3 network, and a clear shot at the Xbox Live Network costing $50 per year. Now for me $50 for an entire year doesn't seem like a lot of money, and considering all the things you can get with Xbox Live, I think it's a bargain.

Comparing the 2 networks together, you can come to the conclusion that you get what you pay for. Now that might not always be the case, if Sony gets off the mat and has the year they believe they're going to have.

But for now, I think Sony should have held off on this bullet point.

Why Do You Want A Wii?

I know that the Wii is targeted at the family, adults, kids, moms, dads, and everyone in between.

But this photo pretty much sums up why I don't own a Wii!!!

I'm pretty sure that what ever is holding these geezers attention on the Wii is something that I don't want to play. I guess I'm in the minority with this Wii craze thing, but I just don't get it. No HD support and the games are geared towards 8 year olds, moms, and now seniors? How and why the PS3 and Xbox 360 are not killing this console is the tech mystery that has remained unsolved in my gadget filled life.

Someone please help me understand the madness!!!!

A Fair, But a LONG and Involved Analysis of the PS3 vs XBox-360 a Year Later

Ok, that was a long title to a post; but it's just a bit of conditioning for this very long, thorough and fair look at both the PS3 vs the XBox-360 in all their forms and incarnations. It's a report looking at not only the fact that the PS3 is one year old, but it also looks at the coming two years as well.
Better yet, this article was written by a guy who works for one of the game houses making games for all three current consoles as well as the PC market.
Special thanks goes to one of my favorite long time all encompassing geek site Lockergnome, and fellow blogger LordKaT. Check it out here!

Wii Out Sells The Xbox 360

The Nintendo Wii was released a year later than the Xbox 360, but that didn't stop it from kicking its ass. According to vgchartz.com, the Wii posted sales of 10.57 million consoles sold, compared to the 10.51 million consoles sold by the Xbox 360. Of course the PS3 is in third with 4.32 million sold.

I know that the Wii is a fun game system with the innovative controller, but I think their success might be from the low price point that it has. I wonder will the PS3 and Xbox 360 get more of a bump in sales from their price drop. And with the release of Halo 3, will that push sales for the Xbox 360 console?

I get the feeling that this war might not be over.

But for now, congratulations to Nintendo for getting back on top of the videogame world.

The First Console War

I love G4TV, they point out some of the most interesting things that sometimes I don't think about. Case in point, the next-gen console wars going on isn't the first one. That started with Atari and Intellivision, which I would have to agree that Atari won. Check the quote:

" Intellivision had the more impressive hardware and processing power, but the games just weren't there."

Boy does that sound familiar right about now?

Oh well.... check out this retro clip below, which my favorate part is the "total destruction of a planet."

Amazon: Sales For Xbox 360 Way Up

People love things on the cheap!!! The PS3 is benefiting from this theory as their sales have gone up 135% since dropping the price. Now it looks like the Xbox 360 may be getting some of the same cheap love.

Amazon.com is reporting that the Xbox 360 Premium has jumped to #11 in sales in video games. The Elite and Core have also seen a bump in sales as well. The racing game Forza 2 for the 360 has jumped from #94 to #1, obviously benefiting from the surge in sales of the 360.

It's a little early to see what kind of impact the price drop will have on the 360, but signs are pointing to a big hit.

Hopefully Forza 2 isn't becoming more popular for other reasons.
