Version 2.4 is not the version you're looking for
A "customer support" representative for Sony has reportedly informed CVG that firmware version 2.41 for PS3 should be available "midweek." Sony has not made an official statement about when version +.01 will be available, but we've sent carrier pigeons to their offices to peck on the windows until we get a response.
Sony has gone dark on the issue since July 2nd, presumably as it tries to figure out why some consoles had adverse reactions to the 2.4 upgrade. We'll update as soon as we receive a response from Sony.

PS3 price drop more likely
IBM today announced [arstechnica.com] that they are moving to a smaller, cooler, easier to produce die for the Cell chip that powers PS3 game consoles. This means less overhead for Sony, and hopefully they can make the gut check to bring the price down.
Or not. You never know with those guys.

A Fair, But a LONG and Involved Analysis of the PS3 vs XBox-360 a Year Later

Ok, that was a long title to a post; but it's just a bit of conditioning for this very long, thorough and fair look at both the PS3 vs the XBox-360 in all their forms and incarnations. It's a report looking at not only the fact that the PS3 is one year old, but it also looks at the coming two years as well.
Better yet, this article was written by a guy who works for one of the game houses making games for all three current consoles as well as the PC market.
Special thanks goes to one of my favorite long time all encompassing geek site Lockergnome, and fellow blogger LordKaT. Check it out here!

Sony's PS3 PlayTV Releases For Europe

Sony has announced that the personal video recorder (PVR) add-on system for the PS3 that was promised earlier, will hit the shores of Europe starting in 2008. The dual HDTV DVB-T tuner setup and the PVR will allow you to record shows on your PS3, and store them in both HD and SD formats. You can also watch them via Remote Play on your PSP, giving you a reason for owning one.
No date for the U.S. but it shouldn't be too far behind.
