Section 8 demo hits XBLA

Section 8 is an intense first-person shooter that gives players unprecedented strategic control over the battlefield, employing tactical assets and on-demand vehicle deliveries to dynamically alter the flow of combat. Set in the distant future when humanity is facing a growing insurrection among its colonies, Earth dispatches the elite 8th Armored Infantry to turn the tide.

I’m gonna give this a try.  Someone else who likes shooters give it a try and let me know what you think.  Add it to your download queue here.

Mini Review – Fable II: See The Future

image

Strange new quests, new dog breeds and a vision of your future await you in this premium download. Murgo, trader of highly unusual and magical items, has returned to Bowerstone, and he has brought with him objects that will transport you to worlds and quests no Hero has ever faced before. Bring colour back to the world, dress up in creature costumes, compete in a new combat arena and find out what awaits you in Albion’s distant future.

Now I’ll say this right off the bat.  If you enjoyed playing Fable II, then this is a definite download.  If you put the game away before finishing, then this is probably not gonna make you pick it up again.

I will admit that it was fun running around in Albion for a few more hours, but after a while, there just isn’t enough to do.  There isn’t a lot of challenge to the new missions, even in the new combat arena (got the highest prize and the achievement on the second try).  What this game desperately needs is more random mission generators.  The occasional bounty hunter and rescue the slaves gets old after a while and no longer is a challenge.  There needs to be a difficulty setting.  Though I will admit that running around in a costume scaring villagers is fun.

As I said at the beginning, overall it is a good DLC pack, a little better than Knothole Island.  But don’t expect it to make you love the game if you didn’t already.

Windows: Games For Windows Live Gets Revamped Look, Marketplace

Windows: Games For Windows Live Gets Revamped Look, Marketplace: "Games for Windows Live, that free Microsoft service for social gaming stuff on your PC, has gotten a face lift—partially because the original version, being more or less an Xbox Live port, wasn't actually PC-user friendly. Now the new interface is supposed to be designed 'with PC gamers in mind.' GWL will keep Achievements, TrueSkill matchmaking, voice and text chats and gamertags, but adds a special marketplace (similar to Xbox Live's Marketplace) for buying trailers, demos and add-on game content. Check out a multitude of pics of the updated interface at Kotaku.

This entry was created using an Accelerator feature from Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.  Seems pretty useful.  Check it out here.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith Demos are Live

Check out your XBL and PSN, guys. There's a sweet treat waiting for you there today, and it's the demo for Activision's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PS2).

Included in the demo pack are the following tracks, plus more:
  • Sweet Emotion (Aerosmith)
  • Dream On (Aerosmith)
  • Walk This Way (Run DMC featuring Aerosmith)
  • I Hate Myself for Loving You (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts)
I can't wait to try the Walk This Way with Run DMC.  I still love that song and I still think Raising Hell is one of the best albums of the 80's.

Castle Crashers coming soon

Saw this bit of news on Xbox360Fanboy.

Yes, we'll admit, we're a bit obsessively excited to play The Behemoth's Castle Crashers. And ever since we learned that development has wrapped we've been experiencing reserved excitement. Reserved only because our Castle Crashers wait has been full of delays, more development and more waiting which leaves us believing that there may be a chance that The Behemoth will announce that they've jumped back into development for some crazy reason, ultimately leading to a 2010 release. Scary thought, no? But we're pleased to reveal that there is absolutely no turning back with Castle Crashers' release, because we just learned that the game has been rated "T" (for teen) by the ESRB. This means we can now go from reserved excitement to full fledged, ecstatic, ADD filled excitement. We say, bring on the blood, gore, cartoon violence and crude humor! We're ready!

I'm stoked about this game too. It looks like a lot of mayhem and fun.

Gotta love free games

Just a reminder that Microsoft's apology gift for Live being "fickle" this holiday has just arrived. Their gift, the full version of Xbox Live Arcade game Undertow, is now a free download off the Marketplace. Undertow will remain free for only a limited time though, so we advise commencing the download process as soon as possible so you don't forget. Because when the clock strikes midnight pacific on Sunday, January 27th, the free Undertow offer will disappear into the deep, dark bowels of the Atlantic ocean, never to be seen again. And for those fanboys who already own Undertow, remember to give MS support a ring today, tell them your story and you'll be rewarded with 800 MS points instead. Free goodies for all!
