Pioneer SE-CLX9: One Headset To Rule Them All

If you're a music nut but can't seem to find the right kind of headsets for your ipod or Zune, Pioneer was thinking of you. The SE-CLX9 is made from aluminum and comes with 5 different types of in-ear combinations. You want more bass? Just change ear-buds. Want more treble? Try a different bud.

It's a little to much work for my taste, I prefer a all-in-one headset. But I could see this being big with music producers and all around music snobs. I just wish Apple would just put in a decent pair of headsets in with their products.

That would've solved my problem from day 1.

New Harman / JBL headphones

Harman brand JBL has released two new sets of headphones in its Reference series. Foremost are the 610, which come with a dongle that allows volume and track adjustment on iPods, using controls located on the headphones themselves. iPods from the fourth generation onward are supported. The 610s also benefit from a Bluetooth receiver, which allows wireless interaction with devices that support A2DP stereo and/or AVRCP controls. An over-the-ear design features leather lining and a choice of black or white colors. Harman is selling the set online for $200.
The Reference 420s are identical to the 610s cosmetically, but omit both Bluetooth and iPod support, instead compensating with a higher maximum input of 50mW instead of 40. Like the 610s, the 420s are bundled with a protective case and adapters for airline and stereo phono use. Black or white versions of the 420s sell for $150 each.
Depending on how these fold up, I might have to check these out.

iphone: Don't Play Well With Other Headsets

OK, I'm sure most of you know that today is the second coming!!! The release of the Jesus phone is upon us, and let us all rejoice.

But Mike Kobrin of Crunchgear discovered a rather interesting thing about the iphone that hasn't been talked about. He noticed that any other high end headsets that you might use to listen with on your ipod will not work with the iphone. This is due to the design of the headphone jack is set so deeply into the iphone, that only the striate plug in headsets (Apple's) will work. So none of the pricey Ultimate Ears or Shure sets will fit into the iphone.

Mike speculates that Apple may have done this on purpose, to create adapters to work with the iphone. He spoke with an Apple representative about this, and got some interesting answers.
