iTunes 9 is out

iTunes 9 is out now, and it has a feature that most iPhone and iPod touch users have wanted for a while.  A way to organize your apps.  Yes, you can finally set up which apps you sync, and also what page and position they will appear.  Its about damn time.

Another feature that is a longer time coming is sharing of iTunes libraries.  Yes, finally if you have more than one computer in the house, you can fully share all of their libraries on up to 5 computers.

iPhone 3GS vs. iPhone 3G: Side By Side Comparison

So the new iPhone 3GS has been announced and if you’re like me, you’re wondering if you should upgrade from the iPhone 3G? Well Apple sure makes it simple with this new feature by feature iPhone 3G vs iPhone 3GS bullet point type chart. Judging from this I don’t think I’m ready to jump on board for a bump in performance, video, voice control, and a compass. My 3G still kicks ass!!!

Think I’ll wait for the iPhone 3GS2 next year!

iPhone OS 3.0 out June 17th

Apple is launching iPhone OS version 3.0 next week, bringing with it a slew of new features, including cut and paste, undo, MMS support and more. But what about the gaming features?

We already knew that Apple would allow for in-application purchases, ushering in the era of microtransactions via add-on game packs and other downloadable types of content. iPhone OS 3.0 also adds new options for developers to tap into other new features, including new "push" notification technology, Google Maps availability in any application, peer-to-peer support for paid apps and much, much more.

Two iPhone game developers, Gameloft and ngmoco, showed off playable apps that take advantage of these new features.

Gameloft's Asphalt 5 takes advantage of peer-to-peer functionality by adding multiplayer over Bluetooth. It also lets players tap into their own music collections by accessing custom soundtracks directly from your iPod library.

ngmoco's Star Defense, just released today, will be one of the first games to take advantage of in-app purchases. iPhone owners can download new galaxies adding "hundreds of hours of gameplay."

UPDATE:  Well, US iPhone users, guess what.  AT&T will not be supporting MMS for the iPhone.  I guess they need a way to charge me even more than for my data and text message plan.  I’d been pretty happy with my AT&T service for the past few years, but this may be the proverbial straw.

Windows To Run On The iPhone

In what is sure to cause the explosion of many Mac heads, Citrix has announced that the iPhone will be able to run Windows apps. It will not be a true Windows OS running on the iPhone, as it will be using a Citrix Receiver. This will be remote screen software that connects to a PC, giving you the illusion that you are running Windows. Citrix claims that this will give iPhone users full Windows capability, including “cut and paste” within Widows mind you.

Might be a must have for iPhone

Nothing says "I'm mad as hell about my iPhone 3G's battery life and I'm not going to take it anymore" better than blasting it out of a loudspeaker. Bonus points for that loudspeaker being integrated with a battery pack, which in turn connects to your -- you guess it -- iPhone 3G (or original iPhone, if that's how you roll). Well, $44 to the folks at Brando will buy you that very opportunity, it turns out. Who knew?

This looks very promising for long trips.

I.T. Managers Not To Crazy About The 3G iphone

With all the hype for the new 3G iphone and its new Exchange support, many I.T. managers are faced with the possibility of having to integrate them into their environment. You would think not having a Blackberry server to support like the one in my company, and only dealing with the iphone might be something that most I.T. engineers would jump at, right?

Well, not so fast.

Most I.T. managers have a few issues with the new iphone. Deploying it on a large scale isn't an problem, but the iphone has to be activated with a Mac or PC with iTunes installed. So how do you activate hundreds of iphones without having to install iTunes on every business computer? Yeah, I'm not feeling real good about that one either.

Even with push e-mail and Exchange support, it might be a hard sell to get a Fortune 500 company to buy in to that. I get the feeling that iphone support within my company will be extremly limited to some higher ups!

And a few who have access to the exchange servers ;)
