No WiFi For San Francisco: For Now

It looks like Chicago isn't the only city that won't be getting a city wide WiFi network. San Francisco is the latest city that was left out in the cold by Earthlink after they backed out of the deal.

The only differences is that the mayor of San Francisco states that "the plan is still going head with public money and that Earthlink will not spoil the plans to roll out wireless throughout the city".

Yeh here that mayor Richard Daily? San Francisco is still going ahead with their plans for a city wide WiFi Network. If you're going to continue to hose people for outrageous tax dollars, at least give them a good WiFi signal to complain about your ass!!!

Chicago Not Getting WiFi Network: Shame On You

The thing about Chicago is that it has a ton of great things, like fantastic restaurants, theaters, deep dish pizza, and Da Bears. But one thing it will not have is citywide WiFi network come 2008 as hoped. Chicago officials killed the idea that would've given the city 228 sq. miles of wireless Internet because of "lack of funding".

I find this a little strange since the mayor is ready to pony up billions to bring crappy ass Olympics games here, but no money can be found for something that would be useful. Even Earthlink was showing interest in the project, but they most likely didn't grease the right pockets to make it happen. I can't believe that Philly has a city wide WiFi network but Chicago doesn't, and this city wants to be known as "World Class"? What a joke!

The old saying "What's in it for me?" is alive and well in Chicago, that's for sure!!!

Virgin Airlines Shows You How It Should Be Done

If you've done any kind of flying, you know that most airlines are a big suck fest that should be put out of its misery (American, Delta).

Well Boing Boing’s Xeni Jardin had a chance to fly on Virgin Airlines inaugural flight, and his write up on the trip is very interesting. According to Doug Asmoth of Crunchgear, not only do they have low airfare (SF to NY for $278), but also "WiFi access, super comfortable seats, touchscreen infotainment systems built into every headrest, Doom (!), Google Maps, Linux, movies, TV, and soft lighting".

When was the last flight you've taken that you had all of that? Never? Because no one else offers that.

If Virgin starts to work out of all major cities and offers that kind of service on all their flights, bye bye crappy ass airlines!!!

Guy is fined for using Cafe's WiFi

If you're a geek and you're thinking about moving to Michigan, don't!!! A Michigan man was recently fined $400 and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service. Damn, he must have assaulted a police officer or something, right? Actually, the dude was just using a cafe’s WiFi connection to check his e-mail and surf the web. A nosy police chief confronted the gentleman about it and eventually booked him on fraudulent computer access.

Michigan’s computer access law apparently states that using a WiFi connection without authorization is a felony. You can get 5 years and be fined $10k for using a WiFi connection that doesn’t have WEP or WPA on it.

Wow!!!

You think Michigan could spend that time, I don't know, maybe looking for real crimes?

Read the rest after the jump.
