Madden Play by Play Critique

I must apologize for not getting a more inspired/current "graphic" to represent the one part of nearly every Madden game that pisses me off. Perhaps it's fitting that I use the cover of Madden 2000 for the PlayStation; because quite frankly, I haven't seen much improvement in this series in this area.
I got really excited when I didn't have to listen to the ABSOLUTELY uninspired "faux play by play" from Pat Summerall. I thought, Al Micheal's would be a joy!

NOT.

This year I haven't gotten to actually sample how the play by play is; but now it doesn't even have Madden. This iI don't mind either; because every year he tries so hard to muster up the collective rage to focus into his "Boom - Tuff Act'in Tinnaction" that there was nothing left for the game that carries his name.

I hear now that we are left with Cris Collensworth; and some other dude I have never heard of.

First, Cris Collensworth is a POLARIZING commentator. Most people I've met around the country hate him and want to pop his chicken bone neck in half. How could adding him to the game be an improvement?!?!?

I'm not even going to waste time commenting on some dude I've never heard of who's Cris's sidekick...

What really gets me most upset is that they can do the NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA all very well. WHAT THE HELL TIBERON!!?!?!?!? IS IT THAT HARD TO DO PLAY BY PLAY!??!!?

Ok, I've gotten that off my chest. I haven't posted in a while and I had some pent up rage. Still I think it's well placed.

I guess everyone will do what they always do with each years new installment of Madden. Turn off the Commentary after 3 days lest you have a conniption fit that would make the Tasmanian devil seem like a placid lake.

GAH! I"m like nearly POSTAL over THIS!

i really need to get out... and post.... more... (I want Shatner doing the play by play dammit!) LOL

LOL!!!

I have to admit that the commentary gets very old very quickly. At least you can turn it off when it starts to suck. What I can't understand is guys who play with the injuries turned on. Why would you go through the trouble of picking a team you like, only to lose a good player while battling a good friend?

Piss on that feature!

I believe the reason they went away from Madden is basically he's almost become a caricature of himself in recent years. In the forums, that has always been one thing people have been crying about, getting rid of Madden as color commentary. I guess they couldn't come up with an agreement with ESPN (I think they're in contract with 2K Sports), so they went with NBC talent. Only problem is then you have Michaels and Madden again on Sunday nights. So they just decided to utilize whatever voice talent NBC would provide them.

Think I'd rather have Al Michaels than Madden. The "Boom" got old and it's not entertaining at all. There use to be a time that this guy was extremely informative and all around good color guy.

Now I just want to stick my head in an oven when I hear him.

I think that's why they made the change. LOL

I agree with both of your sentiments.

Dipping a bit deeper into the playing with another human; even as much as I love ALL simulated sports, there is NO WAY I would have the injury option on in either a single game; or a whole franchised season.
I don't mind that if I'm playing alone in a franchise simulation; but having lived in a dorm with 28 guys (The NFL was smaller in those days) if a player got injured on a team -especially a key player- the guy running the team wouldn't want to play the whole season. Why would he? He knows he's going to get whooped every time.

The nuance of an injury in a private simulation where the injury may be only a quarter or a few games to the whole season allows me to try on the head coach, or team president role. When you have actual people playing, all things beyond calling plays and moving the players on game day is FAR too involved. That takes a LOT of time; and adults just don't have that kind of time.
For the best multiplayer fun, set to no injuries; and just play your respective teams. It's the only way toi get through a whole season.

(Speaking of injuries side note: Remember WAYYYYY back in the first Maddens when they had a meat truck come drive your injured player off the field? - If they keep getting deeper into sim modes perhaps they'll re-introduce that to a game and for $60 bucks you can pay to do a sports medicine/EMT simulation... I think they've gone too far!)
