T-Mobile to launch 3G Service Next Month?

If your carrier is T-Mobile, you already know that they are not known to have cutting edge technology first. This is proven by T-Mobile lack of 3G support, but no longer. If you're a customer of T-Mobile and have been waiting for them to catch up with the rest of the world, your wait might be over.

BGR has found a listing for a new Samsung phone that is to be released on T-Mobile's side, and the interesting thing is that it has 3G UMTS abilities. The t639 from Samsung is due out on September 10, and it has the standard Bluetooth and 1-Megapixel camera, and speaker.

T-Mobile's is expected to launch their 3G on the same date, and since they have built their new network from the ground up, they should have a leg up on the competition for the very first time. This should be interesting.

This was basically what I've been waiting for. This is a Deutsch Telecom's first real foray into the US. And since those companies seem to know what they're doing, it should be real good.

Yes they took significantly longer, but that to me means it'll be setup right and have more powerful infrastructure than the rest. Depending on what I need, this may be the push I needed to leave Cingular.

Only problem with T-mobile is the inferior phones.

Lets face it, as much as I don't like AT&T/Cingular or what ever they're calling themselves this week, they have the best phones available in the U.S.. Until T-mobile is able to match that, they will still be second rate.

Yes, in this day and age inferior phones that lock you into contracts are such a difficult thing to overcome. It's not like we can log on to eBay or any other site and purchase phones like, say, the Sony Ericcsson p990i that work exactly on the frequency that T-Mobile uses.

The beautiful thing of this era, and what we'll soon see coming out as more companies and individuals push for wireless freedom. Sure we'll spend more for our devices (though I'd argue that since people spent $600 for an iPhone), but we'd have a much better selection.

True that you may not be locked into a carrier. But the average user doesn't even know what an unlocked cell phone is.

I have an unlocked phone, but it was a pain setting it up to surf the internet and other things that I like to do on my cell. When it comes to unlocked phones most people wouldn't even know where to start.

That is a problem.

Unlocking a phone is not as hard as it seems. When I got my Blackjack, I sold my Razr to a friend in Maine. I think he was using either US Cellular or T-Mobile. I ran across several websites that make it real easy to unlock a phone. With mine, I just plugged it in to the usb port, they sent me a code after my purchase. Downloaded the files they sent me, ran them and 10 minutes later, Presto!!!! Unlocked phone. The software they give you only works with the phones imei # (I think thats what it is) only so they can sell without people ripping them off. I wonder if he'll be able to use 3G when they get it. That'd be cool.

As for me, I've really never had a problem with AT&T/Cingular. I'm just mad that I started with AT&T, then they forced me to change all my stuff to Cingular, just to go back again. I was starting to like the little orange logo.
