Men want hot women, study confirms

OK, so I haven't posted in awhile - I'm studying most of the time, and should be right now. But I just couldn't help but post this from CNN's Tech page. Yeah, that's the title, and I wonder who paid for this study from Indiana University. If you ask me, it should have been researched at Denver University - DU, or "Duh!"

"In the study, participants were asked before the session to fill out a questionnaire about what they were looking for in a mate, listing such categories as wealth and status, family commitment, physical appearance, healthiness and attractiveness.

"After the session, the researchers compared what the participants said they were looking for with the people they actually chose to ask for another date.

"Men's choices did not reflect their stated preferences, the researchers concluded. Instead, men appeared to base their decisions mostly on the women's physical attractiveness.

"The men also appeared to be much less choosy. Men tended to select nearly every woman above a certain minimum attractiveness threshold, Todd said.

Families Play Better Together

OK, here's a little proof you can throw at the wife the next time you want to game. The guys at Popcap games concluded that gaming brings families together.

Here's the story:
  • 92% of casual gaming parents and grandparents say casual games provide an opportunity for them to bond with their children/grandchildren.
  • 70% of ‘family gamers’ believe casual games provide educational benefits to their children/grandchildren

Here are the benefits parents and grandparents believe casual gaming provides:

  • 51% cited Mental workouts/Cognitive exercise
  • 48% cited Memory strengthening
  • 44% cited Stress relief/Relaxation
  • 37% cited Positive affirmation/Confidence building
They even got a professor to back this up. Professor Mark Griffiths, of Gambling Studies at Nottingham Trent University, UK says: "Empirical research has consistently shown that in the right context, computer- and videogames can have a positive educational, psychological and therapeutic benefit to a large range of different ages and sub-groups."

So go wake up your kid and brake out 'Gears of War' or 'Ghost Recon 2' and spend some quality family time together.

Study Shows iPhone texting 2x slower than QWERTY

A study conducted by a Chicago-based usability consultant, User Centric found that texting on an iphone takes twice as long as using a QWERTY phone. It shouldn't surprise anyone with this finding, but it's the first time that someone took the time to complete a study on it. They concluded:

"It took QWERTY users almost twice as long to create the same message on the iPhone as it did on their QWERTY phone. While there was improvement over time, the difference persisted even after using the iPhone for 30 minutes."

User Centric conducted the test with 20 people who didn't own an iphone, that might be a little bit unfair comparing phones that people are already using. But they also said:
  • Most participants said their fingertips were too large for the iPhone touch keyboard.
  • Participants noticed there was no tactile feedback from the iPhone keypad.
  • Participants had 11 errors on the iPhone compared to three on their own phone.
  • Five out of 20 respondents wanted a stylus.
  • Long fingernails could be a problem.
I guess it's all about what you like.
