Iron Man Takes Top Spot

And so it begins, the summer movie season has launched with a serious bang from Iron Man. The live action superhero flick took the number 1 spot with a 104 million dollar take, from its Thursday launch to Sunday. It didn't take in as much as Spiderman 3 did last year (151 million) but it's clearly on it's way to turning a profit. I had a chance to see this one, and it's almost as good as Batman Begins, and that is some high praise. I certainly recommend this one. Check out the other top 10 below:

Cloverfield Number 1 At The Box Office

Despite mixed reviews, the intensely viral advertised movie Cloverfield came in at number 1 this week. The monster movie brought in 41 million, which isn't to bad for a movie with a running time of only 84 minutes. I Am Legend Breaks December Records

I thought this movie would do well but I didn't think it would have a showing quite like this. I am Legend was number 1 at the box office, with a record breaking 76.5 million weekend. The biggest December debut ever, surpassing the 72.6 that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King pulled in on 12/17/03. Not to bad for the science fiction & fantasy genera that's base off the novel by Richard Matheson.

Beowulf Takes The Number 1 Spot

The legendary poem "Beowulf" took the number 1 spot this week at the box office, bringing in 28.1 million this weekend. This is surprising considering the family movies such as "The Bee Movie" and "Fred Claus", which typically do better this time of year than any other. The rest of the top 10 are below:

"30 Days of Night" Takes The Number 1 Spot

In what has turned out to be a dismal showing (number wise) at the theater this week, the vampire sci-fi/horror movie "30 Days of Night" took the number one spot with 16 million. The last few weeks have been bad for the box office, but with Halloween coming up, I expected a better turn out.
