The Smallest Explosion Caught On Film

One of the strangest and coolest photos that I've ever seen is from the new blog io9. This is a photo of exploding nano-wires taken with a electron scanning micrograph by Fanny Beron. It is the tiniest explosion that you've ever seen. This photo won 1st prize in the "Science as Art" competition.

Even though the capsule looks very familier on the outside to the old Apollo capsules, inside it's all new and improved. Millions of processors in computers at NASA (many running Linux) are speeding up times to engineer and test thermal tolorances, new touch panel computer screens, and returning to the Earth and landing on LAND, not water.
