One of the strangest and coolest photos that I've ever seen is from the new blog io9. This is a photo of exploding nano-wires taken with a electron scanning micrograph by Fanny Beron. It is the tiniest explosion that you've ever seen. This photo won 1st prize in the "Science as Art" competition.
