First 'Gears Of War 3' Trailer Is Out........ Oh My!!!
The first "Gears of War 3" trailer has made it to the net, and it has everything that you could hope for.
Drama, action, haunting music, and lots of shooting!!!
If you've played either of the first two games, I'm sure that you're as exited as I am about this final conclusion to the epic Gears series. Seems like the marketing team is sticking to the same formula that gave Gears its haunting feel..... Check the first 'Gears of War" trailer out below:

Gears of War 2 Available For Pre-Order

I have to tell you that I wasn't sure when the Xbox 360 came out that it was the system I wanted. I swore by the PS2, so logic would suggest that the PS3 would be that much better (obviously I was wrong). But what really made my decision of buying a 360 was Gears of War. That game was great to say the least, and to this day, I still play it.
Well get ready for the hype machine to start winding up again.
You can now pre-order Gears of War 2, which is due out on November 15th 2008. I know it's almost a year away, but I'm excited already!!!

DX 9 VS DX 10: No Image Quality Difference

If you're thinking about jumping into the Direct X 10 graphics card world, you might want to check this out first. The guys over at HardOCP.com took the time to see what all the hoopla was all about by testing the PC version of 'Gears of War', and their findings are very interesting.
"We are not sure exactly what turning on DX10 does, but we do know it causes a large performance drop on every video card. In our testing we found absolutely no image quality differences by turning this to ‘On. The only benefit was being able to use “On/Antialiasing” for 4X AA, but you need a very fast video card to use that setting. If you have a GeForce 8800 GTX/Ultra level video card you can enjoy that setting. But on the GeForce 8800 GT/GTS and Radeon HD 2900 XT you will have to sacrifice other in-game options or resolutions in order to use 4X AA. It is rather a shame because we noticed that 4X AA does improve the visual quality of this game in a noticeable way."
I think this kind of says it all about DX 10. If your rig isn't up to serious speed, and not just on the graphics card side, you're going to lose performance on the system. I think that is just par for the course when dealing with anything developed for Windows Vista. So not only do I have to have a DX 10 card, but I have to have a very good (an expensive) one to notice a difference? And if I use the features that it has, I will lose game performance if my rig isn't top of the line?
It looks like I will be purchasing a Direct X 9 card, and saving my money.

Gears of War: Hidden Front Maps Free This Labor Day

If you're a 'Gears Of War' fan and you haven't picked up the four maps that are Xbox Live, I have some good news for you. 'Gears of War: "Hidden Front " map-pack will be free, starting September 3rd. Check out the following maps that you get below:
- Bullet Marsh In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
- Garden This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
- Process Fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.
- Subway Timgad 's Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.

Gears of War PC - Games for Windows Live only
This just in for those that don't have an Xbox 360. Gears of War for the PC is going to be online also, but it will only be Games for Windows Live only. This may irk some people that are used to having a freedom of choice in PC online gaming, whether it be Gamespy or the like. But Games for Windows Live is free, and you can pay $50 a year for the Gold. With the Gold you also get achievements, multiplayer matchmaking, Trueskill matchmaking, in addition to cross platform play.
No official word on when this comes out, but so far it seems the new Games for Windows Live games are going pretty well. If you listened to me earlier, you should have taken advantage of Halo 2 for Vista and Shadowrun for only $40. Each one comes with a 30 day trial for Gold.
This is an excellent game, I have it for 360 and I throughly enjoy it.

Gears of Golf?

While many gamers eagerly await the next 'Gears of War' installment. The designers of the game have something else in mind.
Epic Games boss Mark Rein has confirmed a spin-off of the game entitled Gears of War Golf. And yeah, he's totally serious.
Rein says “So we got an animator to make a golf swing for Marcus Fenix, and then a programmer took one of the Gears levels and added some mounds and stuff to make a course.” GoW’s grenade launching mechanic was used for the ball, so let’s all hope it reaches the hole safely.
