When I was growing up, I was a huge Speed Racer fan.
Now Lionsgate has announced they are working on 26 episodes of a new version of the animated series SPEED RACER. In this new series, which is not tied to the big screen adaptation, a young Speed Racer enters a racing academy for the fastest kids on Earth. He discovers that he is the son of the legendary first series' Speed Racer. And in the first few episodes, the young Speed Racer finds out that he has a brother... the new Racer X, whom he never knew existed.
The young race car driver impresses the school with his Mach 6, the most advanced vehicle in the universe, which doesn't run on gas. Speed and X team together to prevent villains from stealing the Mach 6 and to find out who's behind the mysterious disappearance of their father.
Other characters returning include the original Speed Racer's younger brother Spritle, who is now grown up and the headmaster of the racing academy. And chimpanzee Chim-Chim is now a mechanical robot. Peter Fernandez, from the original series, will voice Spritle.
Nicktoons will air the episodes.
I can't wait to see it.
