Guiness to Publish Video Game World Records Book

Lara Croft is named by Guinness as the "Most Successful Human Videogame Heroine."Guinness to track video game world records
Guinness World Records already compiles many of the world’s most bizarre and amazing feats from mankind, but oddly enough, gaming achievements are currently a little lacking from the latest book of world records. That will soon change, however, as Guinness World Records will announce at the London Book Fair that it is working on a book dedicated to video game records.
"We reintroduced videogaming world records to our annual book a few years ago, and it’s proved to be one of the most popular sections with our core readers. It makes sense, therefore, to dedicate an entire annual to the subject," said Guinness World Records editor in chief Craig Glenday.
The book will include reviews of the 20 biggest games of the year, plus record game scores, hardware profiles, sales figures, technical achievements and professional gamer salaries, according to GamesIndustry.biz.
"Our record researchers are already scouring the videogaming community for superlatives, and the vast number of games, gamers, developers and platforms mean that we have an incredible pool of content to dip into each year. It's going to be a very exciting project," added Glenday.
Guinness World Records: Videogame Edition 2008 is expected to release in April 2008.

I say that its about damn time, only if they have records for playing the games themselves. I'd love to see records about raids on WoW or other games and their times. We need more Leeroy Jenkins!!!!!

It's too bad we can't get the old scores from decades ago; it's kinda like the fact that Deacon Jones probably has more sacks in a season and lifetime than Michael Strahan, but nobody kept track in Deacon's day.

I was just reminiscing about a month ago with Nelson about the old games we played to death. One of them was from a company called EPYX who made both the Winter Games & Summer Games. Both were Decathlon/Olympic type games with many types of sports to play against your friends. Nelson was the ONLY person I ever knew to get a Perfect 10 in diving. I'd spend HOURS at home, or against him and other friends trying to match that score (it could not be beaten, 10 was the best you could get). I think EPYX also had another game we kept a close eye on scores called Break Dance or something. You had to learn moves and in succession perform them flawlessly to keep the music playing, and the score going up. I don't remember who dominated that one. Man were those days fun!

It says they will have records for game scores - from your post: "The book will include reviews of the 20 biggest games of the year, plus record game scores"
