Scams You Should Know About

This subject has been a hot button with me for quite awhile, mainly because the victims seem to always be family or friends. People who go and buy a nice HDTV from the Best Buys and Circuit City's of the world get taken by the "expensive cables are better" scam. And to this day, I do not believe that the $100 HDMI Monster cable is any better than the $6 HDMI cable that you can find on-line.

But what Gizmo Republic uncovered at a big box store is just all out wrong!!!

This demo for Monster cable shows the "Monster difference" between their cables and a inferior competitors. So why was the competitors image inferior to Monsters image? Because Monster is using an HDMI cable on the left, compared to the composite cables on the right. What blows my mind is how they're getting away with this. Check the quote:

"Monster brand has been running this scam for years. The big box retailers have found outrageously priced accessories to be a good way to recoup profits from the pencil thin profit margins on big ticket consumer electronics like HDTVs."

Please people, don't get sucked into this Monster scam that's been going on for an awful long time.

AT&T Rips You Off With 'Mobile Backup'

I have to give it to Doug Aamoth of Crunchgear. He goes on a rant about something that I feel very strongly about, getting ripped off by AT&T and other cellular carriers. Doug touches on how AT&T is going to charge for a service that should be standard. The 1.99 a month for a software called Mobile Backup that stores your address book that is in your phone, so if it is lost you can recover all the numbers and information.

Mind you that this will only be available on 6 phones at first from AT&T, and it isn't cross-network compatible. A service like this should be standard, and it certainly shouldn't be something that is charged monthly for.

JP Morgan Retracts iphone nano Hints

Well it's a shame, but it looks like JP Morgan had to issue a retraction on the iphone nano that they reported was in the works from Apple. Kevin Chang, the writer who made the statement that Apple was working on a nano iphone yesterday based the report off of a review of the patent that was published last week.

But does say that the 3G model of the iphone is coming! I Guess that's good news.
