I have to admit, this does sound kinda cool.
Scientist are developing a Space diving suit which would allow an astronaut or a thrill seeker to jump from a 120,000 feet. The thought is that if astronauts ship would become damaged beyond repair and their lives were in jeopardy, parachuting to the earth wouldn't sound like a bad idea. Also they're in hopes that this could be used for thrill seekers (who I'm sure would pay lots of money to do this) who are looking for a new challenge.
The suit has two kinds of parachutes, one is a special drogue chute which deploys to slow you down from the 2,500 mph fun ride. And the other is a normal chute that deploys at a more reasonable 120 mph.
I love the scenarios that the articles come up with though. Sixty miles up and your ship is starting to break apart, and you don't want to die!!! The only thing they left out is the brick that you leave in your pants after you jump.
