Nintendo, Profits better than EVER?!?!?!

Wow, I used to think the glory days of Nintendo were behind them; especially after how sales of the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube went. Apparently folks really want to flap their arms around and look silly because Nintendo has just had their best sales week EVER!! Check it out here. Thanks be to Wired.

More Signs of Sony Desperation over PS3

In a move of sheer desperation in order to get more games developed for the PS3, Sony is slashing its prices for the PS3 developers kit. I could go on, but I'll let you read this article from Wired instead.

Hats Off to Wu-Tang Clan

Whether or not you agree with the politics of Wu-Tang Tang, any group that openly talks about it's samples, even publishes the source material, gets my respect.

By doing so, and by explaining the reasoning behind using those specific samples, the group (Specifically RZA) elevates the listening experience to the listener. It truly motivates the musician inside me. A lot of people don't understand sampling; especially sampling sound effects and words from a movie. I've been a fan of several bands that do this (Skinny Puppy being one) But few explain what the motivation was/where it came from. Skinny Puppy and Wu-Tang Clan do.
How does this relate to being a geek? Well, unless you've tried sampling and tried to make those samples work within a song, you don't know the difficulty in matching tempo, having it at the right volume for the duration of the sample, and in general trying to make the rest of the music's sound compliment the sample. It's a very geeky thing involving serious computer prowess.

Here, at this website (thanks Wired) you can submerse yourself in what the Wu-Tang Clan's samples are, what they mean, and how they fit into the song. It's really quite interesting!
