Not the G-phone...but kinda...will be

So google's phone is coming, and the platform is Android. This demo shows cool features including 3D graphics, touchscreen, addresses linked to googlemaps, and Quake. Yeah, Quake, as in the game. I'm glad I only have a 1-year contract for my current phone. I hope Verizon will play nice with Google, 'cause this thing's hot.

Obviously missing is WiFi internet browsing. The demo includes "quick" 3G browsing, but from what I've seen on an iPod Touch (makes me feel dirty to type that, btw), and the iPhone, there really is no substitute for WiFi.

Mike, have you changed your mind about getting an iphone now?

I'd already have an iPhone if AT&T had service at work. Some docs have 'em, but they get zero "bars" in the hospital. I got a Samsung Gleam with a one-year contract. We'll see what's available next October.

Ask your hospital to get some repeaters on the building. That's what we did.

Of course I don't think most hospitals are concerned about your signal though.

My Wife works in a hospital in Indy and once you cross in to certain parts of the majority of the hospital; you can't get a signal. From what she tells me; the hospital blocks non-public areas from recieving a signal because they want NO interference with any of their equipment. I think they jam the signal like they do in some movie theatres.

It's just a ploy to keep you from dialing for help when the zombies come boiling up out of the basement. They want you to grab that handy fire axe though, and see what you can do with those random hypodermics you find down there.

"zombies"?

I think the last hospital problem I saw had a Michael Myers issue. Of course they didn't have to many cell phones back then either. Hence the big body count.

Seriously though Mike, are there any service providers that does get a good signal in your hospital? I thought that most didn't want ANY cell phone activity.

*l* no zombie worries.

We get great Verizon service in the hospital, T-mobile is OK, and Alltel has a repeater in house. We've had Verizon for years, so I stuck with them.

Modern cell phones don't interfere with monitors anymore.

They have a great hack for the iphone, so you can use that Verizon carrier if you like :)

Actually, I've heard rumblings of VoIP being offered but could only work when there are no AT&T bars. We get great WiFi service in the hospital, and AT&T works pretty well around town, so I'd be covered.
