Fully Armed Robot Ready For Action

This isn't the first robot to hit the sands of Iraq, but what make this one different is that it's armed. Most robots are used to scout dangerous areas, defuse bombs, ect. But all that has changed, according to the guys at Danger Room blog, the military has developed the "special weapons observation remote reconnaissance direct action system" (SWORDS).

What does all that mean? Well along with all the scout stuff that comes with the standard robot, this one comes with M229 machine guns.

Wow, now robots will be chasing down insurgence in the hot desert!!!
Cool!!!

I wonder how a robot like that would deal with sand or sandstorms? I know that is one of the things NASA scientists have been most concerned about for the Mars Rovers.

In simulated sandstorm conditions, people testing the latest in spacesuit technology don't last too long; Sand & small dust particles get into places you just can't believe. The astronauts often get to the point that they cannot move due to it. If you've ever been in a whiteout; imagine sandstorm just as bad. I hope they can overcome that problem for these robots.

I don't have sandstorms in my back yard, so I'll take 2 please. Just for security patrols.
