I love Sony!!!
It seems that they have an answer to what ever is the problem with their game system, while bashing the other console companies. Case in point, when asked about why Sony doesn't offer enough money to third-party publishers to keep their exclusivity, SCEA president Jack Tretton had this gem:
"We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don’t buy exclusivity. We don’t fund development. We don’t, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it." He went on to say "Microsoft is too dependent on the third-party community, and Nintendo is too (dependent) on first-party. We like to feel that we got a pretty good mix."
What was once a benefit to Sony is now not a big deal. Sony made a lot of money off of third-party exclusivity and now they're poo pooing it.When will the spin job end?

This brings me to think about one of the most important parts of winning the console war; having the easiest & highest array of tools that can be used to build games quickly and are easy to do quality testing on. Last Gen. PS2 got out of the chute first, and had dominated with the PS1 for a long time before that. This time around XBox360 was early, and still based on Direct X. Sony's PS3 is behind and needs to tutor the new technology to all the development houses. That doesn't happen overnight.
Add the fact that the Wii has had a STRONG debut which is only incrementally building on it's Gamecube technology, also makes it hard for the extremely new tech of the PS3. I respect the PS3's hardware deeply; but with such advances, one must realize there is a learning curve to programing. Sony needs to start courting the developer houses and get them up to speed for there own interest.
