Do you remember all of the rumors about a scaled down version of the iphone? It was kinda debunked by the same people who started the rumor itself, JP Morgan. Well it's up and running again, this time it's driven by Wintek, the Taiwan company hired by Apple to create the touch screen for the iphone. According to Digitimes, Taiwan's news paper Commercial times reported the Wintek has already begun testing a version 2 of the iphone, in small volumes.
The intent is to sell the scaled down version in September at a price point between $249 and $299. The bad part is that it doesn't say if these are earmarked for the U.S. at all. To add to the craziness, Digitimes also said that Wintek is making the screen for the new ipod scheduled for August release, but the touchscreen is said to be "less complicated".
What does that mean?

Apple has made some of the most stylish, wonderful, electronics that has led, and will continue to lead state of the art machines. Lower prices are always a good thing; but that big of a price drop so soon is the kind of rumor that makes me think, "No Way".
ReplyDeleteI hope I'm wrong. At that price, they will DOMINATE!
I'll say it again: Bring it.
