Star Trek has produced a few gadgets for us, so where is Star Wars? I guess outside of a lightsaber, there isn't much you would want from that universe.
In another example of art imitating life, a universal translator that is Star Trek-like has been developed. The Phraselator P2 from VoxTec is a bulky-looking hand-held that translates languages, and is ruggedized, so it is unphased by a fumble onto pavement or a torrential rainstorm.
Its makers say that it can translate phrases you speak in English into any language, and then translate back into English whatever people say to you. They also say that any male or female can use it right out of the box.
It was developed for military use, so I'm sure it has some high tech inside. And the cost reflects that theory, coming in a $2000.00.
I wonder if it understands Womanese?
Your blog is very interesting.
