Blizzard Working On "Next-Gen MMO"?

Blizzard has added a trio of positions to the job-opening section on its Web site, fueling speculation on what exactly the software giant has up its mighty sleeve. The positions—for a lead engine programmer, lead tools programmer and lead technical artist—all mention a focus on "next-generation massively multiplayer online games." This is where nerd minds start racing to fill in the information gaps. Of course, with a planned May product announce in Korea of all places, as well as one of Blizzard's vice president's own enthusiasm for the series, StarCraft seems like a franchise ripe for an MMO treatment...

At first I was thinking Diablo 3. But StarCraft would be cool online. I just don't want to pay $15 a month to play it. Come on!!!

Free on-line play!!!

Free Online play is great and all; but Blizzard knows that they can create a game that's compelling enough that folks will pay for it.

But certainly it would be a happy happy time if free online play comes across.

One thing to consider though is that this new game is going to be made for a console and a pc; It could be one of the first companies bringing games to Live in which the pc game would play perfectly with the X-Box. Crossing my fingers for that!

Actually Shadowrun and Halo 2 have that honor. Shadowrun should be available in June (crosses fingers) and it looks cool. It's a shooter with RPG properties, and it's a technology/fantasy mixture. Orcs with Lasers!!!!!! And Halo 2 for Vista comes out May 8th and it connects to Live for Windows. And it looks incredible. But I guess the cross connection is not going to be implemented so Shadowrun will be the first.
