Bad luck Sony

"The Blu-ray Disc Association has mandated that all players released after October 31, 2007 must support a specific feature set for BD-Java—the technology responsible for giving Blu-ray discs the "extra features" like movie commentary and picture-in-picture."

This is huge for the early adopters of the PS3, as they will not be able to access special features such as picture-in-picture and movie commentary.

I heard about this, but didn't realize the PS3 implications.

Can't the PS3 have Firmware updates?

No fireware updates for the PS3 will correct this issue. Which makes me think that Sony had to know that this was coming down the pipe. So they sold them knowing that the player would be outdated in a year.
