After much research by Apple, they have determined that people like rebates when purchasing expensive phones. This must have been a huge brake through for Apple considering that most phones come with some kind of rebate.
Atlanta and Cupertino are considering a rebate in the $50 to $150 range (according to which model you buy), which could definitely make the 4GB at $500 and the 8GB version's $600 price point just a touch easier to swallow.
It's amazing that Apple has discovered that consumers like it when things are affordable. It may not matter to Apple because according to the same analyst, they will be paid 'big time' for each and every new AT&T customer it signs up.
Apple = Paid!!!
