We all have shows that we absolutely love. One of my favorites is Battlestar Galactica. I know, as nerdy as it sounds, it has some of the best writing on television. Mixing action, drama, sex, politics, and social issues that hit home.
Running a extremely close second is Heroes. The writing is fantastic!!!

I like Lost, but it has really jumped the shark lately.

Loved the first couple seasons of The Shield, but couldn't keep up.
I wish I had gotten a Tivo earlier.

I'd have to somewhat agree with you about lost. It seemed that the writers were unsure what they were going to do. Haven't seen the Dresden Files, but I hear that it is good.
Yeah, when you think about it, they haven't just jumped the shark. They took its wallet, shoved a scuba tank in its mouth and shot it with a rifle.
